hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Waffle, the external usb drive to read and write amiga floppy is available
posted by mordock on 18-Sep-2022 11:00:47 (2495 reads)
The forth Bach of Waffle is available from Retrogiovedi.it. The Italian company has back in stock this handy USB drive that, conncted to you PC, can read and write ADF files from 3,5" floppy and also be used as a real Amiga drive under WinUAE emulation.

The Waffle came on a colorful and professionally printed box, containing the Waffle itself, a usb cable and a usb stick containing all the needed software.

The Waffle is available on www.retrogiovedi.it and also on eBay: https://www.ebay.it/itm/195336835377

Tha waffle is based on the work of Rob Smith https://amiga.robsmithdev.co.uk

This is a good development. I wondered when this hardware would be turned into a full product. But why is it named after sticky desert?

Also your links don't link.

I've seen a small floppy version in a video on Rob Smith's site. This looks small and compact. The Waffle looks like an Amiga drive.

So it needs a custom driver and program on Windows. This will need more work then. This is fine for protected and non-standard floppies. But I think a transparent driver that mounts an Amiga floppy is needed.

You can plug a USB floppy into a computer running Windows, Linux or AmigaOS4 and it mounts. Plug and play.

This would be good to have support for AmigaOS 68K, AmigaOS4, MorphOS and so on. That's the nest step.

I don't think it should be posted under 'hardware OS4 ', it's not an AOS4 device, well it can be connected via USB but there are no drivers for AOS4
