That video is well worth the download IMHO.
OS4 seems to be very responsive, thought the refresh rate is quite slow.

You can have more than 4 partitions in linux, however you can only have 4 primary partitions the rest have to be logical partitions, I don't think theres any "real" difference between these but as you say it is a hideous legacy to drag around.

Anyway liked the video, screen refresh of OS4 was nearly as good as in my Athlon XP 1700...

Personally, I don't think the refresh rate is as slow as some of the trolls have made out - with native gfx and UDMA IDE then it's really gonna fly baby!

Regarding the refresh rate: It's still 68k graphics.

The whole discussion of the refresh speed is really going out of hand. It was really an instrument used by some trolls to put down OS4 when they ran out of arguments. First it's "You are unable to do OS4 because you're not capable enough", and then, when we first demoed the CSPPC version it was "But you won't be able to do it on the A1" or "As soon as you try to get it to run on the A1, you'll have a big surprise" (yeah, I really got that from some people).

Now the state of the A1 version is really the same as the one that's shown in Italy, plus the L2 cache support. That's the whole of two frigging weeks worth of work, and no "big surprise", and obviously, we were capable enough of making OS4 a reality on both the CSPPC, *AND* the AmigaOne. So all "they" got left to say "it's got slow refresh". Oh well, I can live with that being said about a version that's pre-alpha. Really.

I think you guys at Hyperion are doing a fantastic job with OS4.
You'll never hear any doubts from me!

You do know that "they" will come up with something no matter what you accomplish. The trick is to deliver a product that everyone else enjoys enough that "they" just become background noise--a pleasant muffled hiss if you will. Ahhh...

@Elwood
Great effort on the video and web pages. Keep it coming!

See it as motivation

Personally, i had never expected it to run so well in October. I'm hoping for a CPPC release before Christmas and a AmigaOne release in march/april 2004. That would be nice.

But i'll really start to believe again (and tell other people) when the graphics system is done. This has nothing to do with not having confidence in the team working on it, but more on fear of external factors (like money to survive in the meantime, a huge meteor hitting both Friedens houses,... yeah i know, i've become very careful when it comes to the future of the Amiga).

I think it's fair to say that you have achieved the most for Amiga since Commodore went under.

Keep it up guys

Actually I think it looks more responsive since I saw it in
Gothenburg, which is not so big a surprise I suppose - things
move forward.

Keep up the good work!

Considering that they're saying that AGP x1 is fast enough, "they" really aren't allowed to complain about anyone else's graphics speed...
