@sundown
Do the following to reproduce:
1. Open AmigaAmp or other music player.
2. Load a playlist, and set to repeat/loop so it doesn't run out of music.
3. using IBrowse, shell ftp, or other, download 2-3 ISO images AT THE SAME TIME.

Walk away. Come back later, crashed/locked up machine.

I just re-read the entire thread. (ack)
Other variables at this point seem to have been taken out of the mix, from heat, powerpc.library, mpega.library, as well as interactions with Commodities (Fuzion and others renamed entiore WBStartup folder, I tested with everything minus AmiDock, AsyncWB, RawWBIO removed).

There's been a single person that's reported the same problem with Miami (kicko). Could probably use a few other verifications of this.

DaveAE also asked if this is reproducible under Linux- not sure I saw a confirmation one way or another on that one.

@sundown

What program did you start to get the audio lock up?
I had problems with amplifier on both OS 4 and OS 3.9 doing what you described.
Since I upgraded amplifier to Version 2.35 this hasn't been an issue on OS 4.

I'd be interested to see if any uA1 users were having this audio lockup.

@wardyone

On the classic/os3.9, I got the lockup with AmiNetRadio & SongPlayer. I only tried Amplifier a few times, but I don't recall any lockups with it.

Are you using a gfx card with P96 on your classic?

@wegster

It's late here, but I'll run a test tomorrow & see what happens. I did read the whole thread before I posted, but nobody mentioned this problem on their classic. I just couldn't help but thing this is a carry over to os4 with P96 & 68k emulation being the link. Besides, you guys were running out of ideas.

I think I have solved the audio lock up that I was getting.
So far I've been running for 4.5 Hrs without a lockup.
Been running the following.
-AmigaAmp playing MP3's
-Remote Desktop @ 500 kb/s (streaming music also)
-Aweb downloading 2 x 2gb linux iso's @ 60 kb/s
-Transfering mp3's to a MMC card via usb.

I've either fixed the problem or my amigaone has developed a problem and is not locking up anymore !
I'd never get away with running all this for more than an 1 hour max!
But it looks very good so far..

Cheers
Wardy..

Hi,

Quote:"I just couldn't help but think this is a carry over to os4".....

Switch from "flat" to "threaded" view.
About halfway down the list is an AW member with the nick "whose".
There is a bit written about a similar problem on classic Amiga.

Best Wishes,
#6

@wegster

Try again playing mp3s from RAM:, and download the ISOs to RAM: (if you have enough memory!). That should eliminate the ide driver and hardware as being related to the problem.

What about someone with a Sii0680 IDE card? I haven't tried reproducing this problem yet, but I do have all my disks plugged into the Sii0680 card and nothing is plugged into the VIA IDE.

Note, I came into this discussion late, obviously. I have not read the whole thread, but Wegster's synopsis doesn't seem to include a setup like mine.

I can give this a go when I get home from work tonight. I normally don't listen to music while I'm working with my computers, so I can't say that I've seen this problem before with my A1.

@Androxyn

Only audio problem(s) I've found with mA1 are listed here:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13660&forum=2

I can live with mixer settings, but most annoying is this sound-distortion which happens when iBrowse is loading large pages. As DaveAE sais in that thread, mA1 onboard audiochip drivers need little bit more work.

It's looking good guys, 7.9 hrs without a single lock up since I ripped out my (corruptive) soundblaster and replaced it with a Revolution 7.1..

cheers

@FuZion

Well rather than read through the whole list of replies i'll just add my own experiences with audio and network crashes.

Currently i use the a1 (xe, unfixed) mainly to play quakeworld, mp3's and run a couple games in e-uae (man i got to get that set up, anyone know alot about it?). I used to get crashes just sitting in irc and listening to mp3's. When i tried quakeworld i could count on about 20 minutes to a crash. Eventually i figured out that if i ran it with -nosound everything cleared up but playing without sound is unacceptable so i took a chance and used the older eth3com.device (v50.9) because pre-updates i didnt have as many crashes, and i havent had any problems since. With ANY of the updated eth3com.device drivers i get an unstable system when runing sound and being online at the same time. That dosent mean its the ethernet driver either. It's just a working setup i've found (and hope it helps some people til things are resolved). It could still be anything. AHI, ethernet drivers, heck amigaamp is 68k and quakeworld spits up a couple warnings about AHI structs when compiling so who knows for sure. Even dialer could be the cause. It's had a long standing bug where if you iconify the window, change workbench's screen mode and try to uniconify it, it will guru on you and anyway, sometimes things are a little flakey after going offline. Cant explain it but sudden lockups are not unexpected after going offline. At least i can play quake, listen to mp3's(yeah that means no quake sounds, ironic aint it?) and download tons of files without crashes or corrupted HD(PIO still, its an unfixed board). If anyone else wants to try useing the older eth3com driver let me know if it works for you. Im curious if 'fixed' boards have the same troubles.

Yes, but not regarding any lock-up issue, only about selecting inputs and controlling volumes and gains.

Not sure I've got enough, but in theory can try it until it fills up (512MB, had to yank the other 256MB as that combo didn't pass memtester).

There were a few people with sii controllers, although I don't think anyone has tried to entirely disable a1ide.device in uBoot as well as removing/renaming the driver itself. It would be great if you can verify this combination.

I tried again using Amplifier (68k) last night. It looked promising, surprisingly, but still got the lockup after an hour and a half. (I can repro this usually in < 30 mins)

I'll try with the older ethcom.device today.

Envy24HT, but that's rather irrelevant.

Not sure, didn't look at it long enough before I installed it and started testing. DaveAE would know.

My last tests run 10 hrs without a drama.
I've now switched to downloading a linux iso and streaming audio off the net.

cheers..

Just trying to ascertain which driver may be in use.

@all
Just started a test using TuneNet, playing an internet radio station. This should push the audio and networking. I'm out tonight, so it'll be interesting to see if the music is still playing correctly when I get in...

I would reccommend another sound card, just not a SB Audigy or SB live..
I've done every test imaginable and not solved the audio lockup.
As soon as I replaced my SB live 5.1 I've never had a lock up since.
As I understand it, there is known issues with the SB live in cobination with the Via 686b.

cheers
