Forgot to tell how the pins are for VCORE settings
Up-down-down-Up
Hmm wonders what VCORE that is 1.xx i forgot it but its as described on the faq. My cpu is 933 downclocked to 800mhz and for some reasone lately its set to 866mhz.
As you often talk about VCORE can you check if i have the right settins so we can go further with this VCORE talk :)
And i do want to set my cpu back to 800mhz.
Later on we can discuss about the temperature and how to get this info. |

Thansk Curty, no i didnt get any docs for the dip switches at all. Just a manual in Swedish for installing Linux, how to set all this JP connectors etc.
I followed the guide you gave me and now it says 800mhz again :) My miggy feels little slower now but i feel better. And the fan feels less hot.
Back to where i started from :) Now Eyetech, give us the 1.4ghz module :) |

So, is there ANYONE _with_ AN SB Live/emu10k chipset that does NOT have this problem? |
I tried two sblive chips here:
CT4832 SB0220
Both freeze on demand: 3 simultaneous downloads of 100Mb file to ram: along with tunenet0.56 or amigaamp2.35 never survived more than one cycle of download (wget, 1.5MB/s each, from local http server).
Without streaming audio 6-7 download cycles went without a blink.
Too bad I can't get anything else than sb to test here

| I've just been surfing for over an hour with AmigaAMP 2.13 runing and using a adsl modem on my erthnet connection. I have a soundblaster 1024 live with emu10k chip. After the hour I had my first crash but not a complete lockup, Aweb crash causing the audio to stutter for a second but continued playing fine after. I then loaded IBrowse demo and started do download a 5M file. IBrowse crashed aswell causing the same brief stutter but the file continued to download regardless. I never achieved a complete lockup so don't know whether this is related or not. Last edited by Arnie on 10-Jul-2005 at 07:47 PM.

Weird since I tried with a SB 128 as well and still got those lockups. |
But mine is a SB16, not a 128. It just happens to have a chip that the SB128 driver supports.
Maybe there is something in the card itself, not necessarily the chipset per se, that is the problem?
Or there could be multiple different causes (as has been mentioned before) that all result in the same symptom, the lockup._________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site. |

| @ikir This really does NOT seem to be a heat issue.
I can peg my CPU to 100% around the clock for days (and have), without any issues. CPU usage increases heat, period. I've got an upgraded CPU fan, plus 2 case fans as well.
What card are you using?
@Toaks Yes, it still is an issue.

Is there any equivalent to this command in Uboot? If yes, ill it survive the loading of AOS4 kickstart and the startup? Then it can be pre/a-ppended to the command that sends a1 into "multiboot", "aboot" or whatever is the command for the relevant boot method is... |
As DrBombCrater pointed out, most of the info give was actually for the northbridge, not the Via, which makes it not correct for our systems, although some of the ideas behind these fixes may yet be applicable.

So i believe there is other problem then VCORE and FAN. Only becuase it helped you, dont mean you found out the problem. You could be lucky :) |
I fixed these problems for several users, a lot of people had the wrong vcore. ANYWAY I SAID that this problem is not the only one, but before try to understand the cause, you need to be sure to have enough cooling and the right vcore
@Curty It seems low to me but i don't know. usually the 933Mhz G4 used in A1s need 1,84, but 1,79 is enough (and cooler). I don't remember the value for the 800Mhz G4. I don't even know if all the 800Mhz G4 on A1s are the same model._________________ ikir |

No thats a point I dont use the ethernet port, I connect to router through a wifi card. Could this be the prob?
|
Well, what we've seen so far is the lockup is much more easily repeated with the PCI bus under load, in most cases we've generated the 'additional load' by downloading several ISOs simultaneously.
1. Open AmigaAmp or other. 2. Set settings to loop. 3. Open IBrowse, AmiTrade, or several FTP sessions and download 2-3 ISOs like RedHat Fedora or any others, at the same time. 4. Wait- generally the system will lock in < 90 minutes.
I suppose you could try to duplicate this via USB, with a USB media stick and copying several large files over simultaneously, and see if there's any affect?

| @wegster Heat or vcore or again the other problem. i'm not saying this fix for all, but the result is the same. You get these lockups if you have the wrong vcore or a heat problem.
If linux is stable and Os4 not or viceversa then it doesn't mean anything.

I missed this- who re-created using USB + audio, no ethernet?

May not be enough load on the PCI bus- we've had the most consistency with downloading multiple ISOs simultaenously (2 or 3 650MB images) while playing music.
Can you try again, while downloading multiple ISOs?
There were some references to a 'fixed' SB chipset, although I don't believe I saw anyone saying - "I bought another SB Live, and it's fixed" in the original PC 686b/SB issue.
This is getting long, it may be time to start a new thread consolodiating the information here.

I suppose the vore core is ok at this speed but if I took the speed up then id prob get problems? _________________ A1XE G4 800mhz,512mb,Radeon9200,SonyDRU-510A and 800a,ESI Juli@, Sil680, WiFi. |

Agree...I don't either belive its a heat issue...
I've done some testing and i can't strees my system to lockup..
I have a SB128 with 5.22 driver.. Had AmigaAmp running together with Ibrowse and surfing (And sometimes two AmigaAmp) and no problems...
Whats your settings for AmigaAmp..???
Screenshot1 Screenshot2
The uptime was between 7-8 hours but i forgot to take more screenshots...A thunderstorm passed by..so..

| @Jacken Please post the info, along with system, RAM, card etc, in the other thread here
Not sure if SB128 uses the same chipset as the Live or not offhand, will need to find out.
Hmm, and PM me and let me know what you're using to get the 'patterned' window titlebars, nice screenshot _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??! |
