Hi all,

When I use OWB and Netsurf I can't stop comparing these with Firefox and I always think "Wow!!!".

So I have to ask you. Would agree to stop the Amizilla bounty and use the money for OWB/Netsurf?

Myself, I think the current bounty is as useful as a winter coat in a swimming pool. :-/

@elwood

No. You start new bounty for new software. What would the people who donated for FireFox think?

No, for the moment no, OWB and NetSurf need some work to be able to compare it with Firefox.

Plus, a lot of users has put money on Firefox project, what can we say to that peoples ?

When I contributed to the Amizilla bounty, I was paying for aport of Mozilla/Firefox. Not something else. Not something almost as good. Not something better. I paid for Mozilla/Firefox. I do not want to get anything other than that for my money, or I want my money back. IMNSHO

So, all that money should stay where it is and NEVER be used for anything ??

Come on ! At least change the bounty to 'the first OS4 native usable browser' or something....

This is getting ridicules (sp?)

How about a poll 'Who donated to the Amizilla bounty and thinks it still has a change ?'

my 2 ects...

Martin

This has been discussed to death already.

the amizilla bounty is too large to transfer to any other one program suite except perphaps open office. (provided all donors accept this of course)

As the rules stand now, the first person to port firefox to one of the 4 listed oses, will receive 1/4 of the bounty. At this point these people need to release their source code in compliance with the mozilla tri-licence. So any people knowing more about any of the three remaining oses will most likely get the second 25% thus leaving team with only a small compensation for the greater part of the task.

anyway, I'd like to see anyone port it to os 3.x

when was 3.5 and 3.9 released anyway?

@elwood

I recall there is a mention in the conditions for Amizilla, that if it should be canceled, every contributor gets a say in what to do with his or hers donation.

For my own part, my donation to Amizilla is meant for FF to Amiga, nothing else, so no in this poll.

For OWB and Netsurf, since those exists already, I don't really see a need for a "bounty".

Instead, if you like the program, send some money for beer or such, just to show you appreciate their efforts, for example http://utilitybase.com/ has a nice list with developers with Paypal.

And don't forget about Sputnik, it got a bounty with conditions that were fulfilled, and propably will just "crash down" on OS4-users one day.

I gave to the Amizilla bounty (and thanks to this bounty, I never gave anymore money to any other bounty).

So I'd like to see my money back or given to Joerg for example.

I will never ever give any money to any other kind of bounty. It's thwrowig money away. I prefer to give money to people really bringing things to the Amiga (and they are a lot now).

@elwood et al,

Around two months ago, my wife's PC was devastated by two worm viruses. I offered to let her use my A1XE to run her bookselling business through Amazon.com. Her own words concerning OWB, AWeb, and IBrowse included "Flintstones," "primitive," and "unusable" in comparison to Firefox on her Win98 PC. I had to agree with her. Even though OWB has come a long way, it needs to go a long way further to compete with Firefox, even Firefox on a measly 500mhz Win98 PC. I would like to see OWB and Netsurf advance, and to see the start of Firefox development.

This money is sleeping and ... the AmiZilla project too, as far as I know. And the problem is that we know about nothing with the status. This port is huge and I think it was really too early when the bounty was opened.
I did not give to the bounty because that sounded not realistic (but ok, less than OpenOffice).

The OWB way is clever, it uses an engine that was thought with portability as goal. And with the continuous and great work from Joerg, it takes months to be complete.

Having OWB makes the need of Firefox near to zero. It would be great if Firefox was ported, we could say "we have it !".

If I had money to give, it will go into the Joerg's pocket.

I dont see why you would be obligible to use bounty money for OS4 projects only. Amizilla was cross platform project (and in my opinion dead since beginning) targetted to old Amigas, MorphOS and OS4. Amizilla is for the Amiga community and not for subset of it. So, please, be fair to other Amiga users and dont leech.

It could be good idea to cancel Amizilla bounty and return money to donors who can then decide what to do for their money.

@corto

AmiZilla project is not sleeping. There are a few guys who are actively working on the project. So if they are after the bounty, what do you want to say to them?

Of course, the motivation for the port should not be the money, but the port itself.

@Mr_Capehill

Firefox has many dependencies. Slowly some of those dependencies are being addressed especially for OS4 (eg Cairo).
So the work to do the port is reducing, thus it is not impossible that at least an OS4 port will be done. Also SAM440 with OS4 is likely to attract back some hobby programmers.

@Mr_Capehill

Who are the programmers? It would be nice to have an update from them on the project status.

Yeah. Someday there will be a port, if OS4 lives long enough (hardware, development, developers).
