@retro

If it's an april fools joke then Amigakit is playing along as they've got the pre-order page up on their site.

@Trevor and Amigakit

Dispite all the nay-sayers this got to be very good news (probably not for Trevor's wallet).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Amigakit have asked me to change the link I provided in this post to the following one...

www.amigakit.com/x1000

Seems the one I provided is according to Amigakit for customers whom are already "waiting on the order list and is by invitation only"....

Apologies for any confusion caused but if the original link I posted is only for "invitation only" then perhaps the "product link" I originally posted shouldn't be available to anyone and everyone whom looks a around the Amigakit site or at least have some sort of text / warning telling "uninvited" folk who do come across it that it is not available to them... just a thought...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Original post with link removed)...

Only in Amigaland can you...

Start a thread that should...

Make a lot of people happy whom had missed out on something first time around and have posted that they were disappointed they had only to find that, instead of people being happy with the "good news"...

You instead get...

Some folk reading things into the thread title that isn't there...

Some folk thinking it's a very early and badly timed April Fool joke...

Some folk whinging bizarrely that somehow the "Amiga Community" is being robbed of money...

Only Amigaland makes it possible (not to mention of course it's better than anything on the telly for sheer light entertainment and a never ending source of giving you that feeling that you've ventured into the twilight zone) ...

Anywhoo... for those genuinely interested in purchasing a new A-EON X1000 here's the link to the Amigakit Pre-Order page as (Amiga_3k said)...

NOTE: LINK REMOVED UPON REQUEST FROM AMIGAKIT... Apologies for any confusioncaused by this...

PS: If you still think this an an April Fool joke then like I say it must be the worst one in history considering it aint even April the 1st yet no matter where on the planet you are...

PPS: If You still think that anyone Pre-Ordering a new X1000 from Amigakit means the money is being "taken out of the Amiga Community" then your off yer trolly...

I didn't mean $3000 to one person.. I meant $3000 overall, average per person spent, spread out among various pieces of software. Whether its buying commerically written software, registering shareware, donating to a project, etc etc..

The other thing by some people here (not me of course): buying this $3000 piece of kit made by Varisys is going to somehow fund a "mass produced Amiga device for the masses" ?

Don't believe me? Read: Quote:
After all, the people who want the X1000 are usually developers, so each X1000 sold is likely to be another developer being more productive

OK, if all these boards are going to developers, what mass produced board are they developing for?

Are they developing for Varisys? And does Varisys have interest more in their market or the Amiga Community? I'd say their market.. hence taking money away from Amiga Community.

Off my trolley indeed! How about off my Gurney?

@Franko

Franko honestly I also belived it was an announcement about a new board design when i saw the thread title...come on man you know how naive and jumpy we all are here don't ya?

Considering the hints that were released some time ago (Cyrus, etc) then it could easily be just what this thread reported on....the title indicated something like that at least. People were perhaps just hoping for a next next gen announcement, and got a wee bit dissapointed.

Anyway Franko thanks for the good information. Now if I had that kind of money I would surely support Trevor and all parties involved and buy the beast.

You should find some of that stashed fat scottish silver around the place, and purchase this nextgen machine...just to let people know your insane and....well just because you can do it

Who knows you might end up having some fun

I know what you meant...

But consider this, that 3 grand that anyone here may have to spend if it's not being spent on buying a new X1000, then what else in Amigaland are they going to spend it on ???

There certainly isn't 3 grands worth of new software for the Amiga out there for folk with the cash to spend it on, there probably isn't 3 grands worth of bits n bobs in new add on hardware for them to spend it on... so that 3 grand or at least the biggest part of it would never be going into anything in Amigaland...

Plus a lot of Amigans are skinflints anyway and would never part with 3 grand if they had it on anything Amiga...

Just cos someone "thinks" that only "developers" have bought or are buying the X1000 doesn't make it true...

Take "Moxee" & "Darrin" for example they both bought one and to the best of my knowledge they aint developers nor are they developing anything for the X1000...

Handy Tip: Don't believe everything you read on the interwebs...

In a hundred years people will probably refer to all the amiga computers from the last 20-30 years as classic models...even the X1000

The great thing about the X1000 is that it's being financially backed by a man who dearly loves the classics himself

3 reasons...

1) I was bored and missed my 3 hour sleep last night/ today so I've been all over the net looking for something interesting to pass away the dark hours of the night...

2) I forgot to take me meds and didn't realise what I was doing...

and

3) Thought it was the least I could do for you poor "NG" lovers for putting up with my ramblings for the rest of the time...

@Franko

Great news indeed! Thanks for sharing it with us!

And thank you Trevor for being willing to make this happen, even at a financial loss to yourself. Wish I could afford one!

I suspect that most of these are going to be sold to people already registered on the waiting list for them.

Scott

Um, Im sorry that I couldnt afford one even though Id really like one, but on the text at the top of the order page, it says includes AOS 4.1 update 6 ... and down in th form at the bottom, the only option in the box is AOS 4.1 update 5 for £111 or so?

I hope its just a small mistake, such as that which blew up the first Ariene 5.

The more X1000's that are sold, the closer Trevor gets to breaking even. Right? Wrong? Doesn't matter? Who Knows?

@Franko

I said *probably* will be developers. :)

@Darth_X

You'd be pretty hard pushed to find $3000 worth of software in the Amiga market. And Trevor is just as deserving as anyone else in the Amiga world, so if people want to keep funding his work on bringing new machines out, that's great as far as I can see. All payment for these will help to bring us the higher-volume productions we all want.
