@Seiya

What's that Blender scene to benchmark?

How about some raw power tests? (dnetc, LAME, MPlayer...)

@recedent

MPlayer used FFMPEG, different versions of FFMPEG can give big difference in speed, older FFMPEG versions are faster then newer, but can't play the newest video codecs and files.

Don't think there was ever compiled a AltiVec version of Lime, or if its possible.

http://lame.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/lame/lame/libmp3lame/ppc/

ppc directory looks empty.

@pavlor

these test are more specific because stress hardware
emulate a 68k OS, Quake via Dosbox, Peacepeeker and Blender.

The DDR2 equipped quad 2.5 GHz PCI-e model probably handles single threaded tasks just as well and threaded tasks better.

The file you're refering to is much less demanding (lower bitrate). Here are the results:

BENCHMARKs: VC: 38.370s VO: 0.019s A: 0.000s Sys: 1.781s = 40.170s
BENCHMARK%: VC: 95.5202% VO: 0.0462% A: 0.0000% Sys: 4.4336% = 100.0000%

@tlosm

You should benchmark without video output, if you wont to compare, recedent is not bench-marking with video output.

mplayer -vo null
