| All,
I have really liked the ImageFx Lite demo from OS4 Depot and I was wondering how well ImageFx 4.5 Studio works with OS4 Update 3? Is it worth buying for graphics manipulation or do you recommend something else. Does anyone know if NovaDesign be selling an OS4 version of ImageFx 4.5?
Thanks,

Seems to work ok here, although the installer was entirely busted iirc, and had to be installed manually instead.
I don't use it much, but did go through all filters and obvious functionality...I think I reported it here, so a search might be a good idea, as well as other's experiences with it.
I seem to remember most functionality worked fine.. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??! |

Yes it does work. It crushed once or twice on me but I could start up another session and continue working (it never locked up the system). Very good software imho. |

yes, IFX4.5 works very nicely with OS4. And will get faster when used under Petunia.
anyway, the current CD was made in dec 2003 for installing on MorphOS. the install script was written by the brilliantly talented and wonderful Dave Crawford (MorphZone). as MorphOS has system dir for 68k and a new Morph system dir for MOS it works a bit differently than an script for OS4.
please remember that AT the Time this was made, OS4 was Not Available for testing! this is not some mad conspiracy.
anyway, installing manually is really not difficult. most files are in the ImageFX dir. there might be some printer files that will be in libs or something. anyway, maybe i'll write something up that should let people know where everything goes.
the one thing you DON'T want to do is replace any classes! bad idea! _________________ "In terms of worship, I worship the God of Irony. That's the only God that I know exists." Terry Gilliam |

Yeah, I think I documented what I went through on the install, but IIRC there were additional archives that needed to be extracted, and it wasn't completely clear what bits were needed.
I'm not sure I want to do a re-install any time soon however
I'll see if I can find my notes on it.._________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??! |

Yes - it works fine on OS4, but you have to unpack and install the windowed CGX module from the lha archive on the CD as the installer doesnt do this properly ( See FAQ on Nova's website). This also happens under OS3.9, but is not needed in OS3.1! |

Waiting for ImageFX4.5 to be delivered (any time now). Would really like a copy of your manual installation notes for OS4. Am currently travelling (again) and will respond to you on the other topic when I return home later in the week.

I have ImageFX 4.5 installed and use it often under OS4 Update 3. Everything I have tried works. If you get it, be sure to get the OS4 native JPEG loader from OS4Depot too. (This is much faster than the 68K loader provided.)

I'm really glad to hear that ImageFx 4.5 studio works fine on OS4 update 3. Does anyone have any idea if there will be an OS4 version?

| If Kermit was here right now, he'd say that NovaDesign never makes announcements about possible future developments.
In other words, when there's something available, All Major News Media will be contacted. Not before.
It's one of the many things that makes that company professional. and worthy of respect._________________ "In terms of worship, I worship the God of Irony. That's the only God that I know exists." Terry Gilliam |

I'm not being a "NovaDesign spokesperson" here, so don't quote me. As far as I know they have never had an AmigaOne in house. As far as I know.
At one time Kermit had a pegasos, but that has been given to someone. I have no other details. They use AmigaForever to run most amiga programs ATM.
As far as I know
and this is gleened from very casual conversation.
When Novadesign has people betatest, it's done with various people using various systems.
While writing some new (IFX) arexx scripts for articles included in my upcoming CD, I noticed that on the peg, certain commands don't work the same way and I had to change the syntax. not being an arexx coder i have NO idea what the heck THAT was about. But I eventually made my scripts work on my emulation and peg by cleverly finding the Right Words. If I can get my friend to reinstall IFX on his A1, I can test stuff there. Eventually. As near as I can figure out, IFX works just fine and Petunia just makes it faster. Because IFX is modular, it's certainly possible that faster hooks and little programs can be made esp for A1. I basically wouldn't worry about it. As soon as i got my peg I saw that certain things I had done on a real Amiga that sometimes would cause it to 'blow up' would now be no problem at all. The main reason for that is the simple fact that pegs and A1's come with alot more memory.
My list of improvements for IFX is much bigger than most of yours, trust me. But we have to be patient. Small steps. As long as we keep working on it, that's all that is important. Let's just enjoy the journey. _________________ "In terms of worship, I worship the God of Irony. That's the only God that I know exists." Terry Gilliam |

OK finally received ImageFX4.5. The installer seemed to work OK under OS4 (PR3) but the CDROM disk directory seems very strange under OS3.9 making installation from the script impossible. I looked up the ImageFX FAQ on Nova Design's website only to note that the CDROM may not read file names correctly on certain drives/filesystems?
Nova Design suggest either copying the files over to Ram: and renaming the install files to enable the install script to work or changing the CD file system? I made a prliminary, but unsuccessful attempt at the first option. Not sure about the second
Has anyone successfully managed to install ImageFX4.5 onto their OS3.9 systems? The ironic thing is it installed perfectly under WinUAE/Amiga Forever 2005 and OS3.9.
I know this is not an OS4.0 related question but any help will be greatlfuly accepted.

I managed to solve my problem installing ImageFX4.5 onto my Amiga 4000T/OD3.9. Since the A4000 is connected to my Windoze PC with an ethernet cable I was able to copy the ImgaeFX 4.5 directories from my WinUAE/Amiga Forever installation using Amiga Explorer and all now works OK.
I guess I will have to make sure that the CD file system is updated at some time in the future but ImageFX4.5 CDROM is the only disk I've had problems reading on my Amiga 4000 CD drive?

It *may* (don't quote me) be a problem with the formatting of the CD. I have heard that there is one product around that is issued on a CD formatted half Joliet/half ISO, so the OS4 CDFS has problems with it. As I understand it, it's not so much the author's fault as the Windows system he uses to format the CDs.

I agree it may be an unusal or more strict CDROM format? However it works fine under OS4.0 pre-release 3. The problem I experienced was with OS3.9 and my A4000 CDROM. I've pasted a section from Nova Design's FAQ section below. Needless to say I am not using a Squirrel SCSI or Toaster flyer although my SCSI CDROM drive is fairly old now! (10x speed)
TrevorDick
Quote:
Why do I get an "Cannot find Script" error when I try to install from the CDROM? This problem is commonly found on the SquirrelSCSI and old Toaster/Flyer?s. It turns out that some CDROM filesystems cannot recognize filenames with more than one ?.? in them. There are two solutions to this:
1. Turn on the Rock Ridge filesystem for your CDROM. (This might include installing a new filesystem. One is included with the new 3.X CD?s.) 2. Copy the installer and icon files over to RAM: and change the filenames so they match. Execute the installer from RAM: This should solve the problem. | (Copyright Nova Design)Last edited by TrevorDick on 28-Nov-2005 at 09:41 AM.

I had the same problem using an old version of AsimCDFS on my A4000T. It would not read the cd. But the AllegroCDFS on my 1200T worked fine! |
