Notwithstanding the allegations made by some that MorphOS uses similar or exact copies of code found in OS4 (Amiga Inc. Intellectual Property)--and thus constitution copyright infringement of an trademarked product--both AROS and MorphOS *DO* trade upon the same channels and community as Amiga OS, and essentially capitalizes upon with the ability to run "Amiga" software. That puts them squarely in the crosshairs for legal action. AROS, a little different (though no less important) insofar as "trade" goes (since it's free), despite lapsed patents, copyright remains intact; it could be seen that it 'takes away' from Amiga OS. Without Amiga/AmigaOS, there would not have been MorphOS or AROS in any case whatsoever, running what they do.

| @d0c I really don't see how "Trademark dilution" applies to either AROS or MorphOS - since neither use any Amiga trademarks or names. We have bigger problems to worry about. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

A exceptionally stupid post in a stupid thread.
There is absolutely nothing illegal about reverse-engineering a piece of software to support an API or inter-communicate. There are million examples of this in the open-source community, from Samba to Wine to Haiku.
Plus, and someone can correct me on this, most of the ancient software patents are not owned by Amiga Inc anyway.
AROS is the one project that has existed throughout all this cr-p, and the one that has a chance of continuing to exist when all the multitudes of lawyers are pushing up the daisies.
So please quit the FUD, intentional or otherwise.
