When I try to run comand from shell I get scsispeed: Unknown command using my SAM460 with SATA drive!
UPDATE: Downloaded scsispeeed from OS4Depot and installed now I get repeated error message:
Error: Device Reported Error on Read test failed
UPDATE2:
Got the following:
scsispeed DRIVE sii3114ide.device:0 FAST BUF1=8192 BUF2=16384 FUF3=32768 BUF4=65536 DRIVE/K,ALL/S,CHIP/S,FAST/S,NOCPU/S,BUF1/K/N,BUF2/K/N,BUF3/K/N,BUF4/K/N,MINTIME/K/N,WINDOW/S 5.OS4.1:> L/S,CHIP/S,FAST/S,NOCPU/S,BUF1/K
Any ideas, not good with shell?

In the above text the BUF3 argument is not correct (FUF3).

I can only repeat that optimization of the system is on-going, the sb600 is a bit of a bitch to work with, but the developers are making good progress.

I was told earlier in the thread it should be FUF3 and not BUF3 as I posted earlier! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

You read it wrong, all should be BUF#. Just hi-light & paste someone elses command line with the same device in the shell._________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

Well, I got curious whether my µ was still on a 'par' with some others here. Nothing has changed in my system since I first started this thread. The results are pretty much the same as they were before.

Don´t feel SAD, SATA is a much newer technology so its no miracle that its much faster. _________________ I´m back in 2023 on Classic Amiga with my A1200/Blizzard1230IB@50Mhz, 32MB RAM, AmigaOS3.2 and ROMs, Indivision AGA MK3, Author of Amiga-Flipclock (OS4) |

I stand corrected and did likewise to post #1. Quote:

It's not only the newer technology of SATA that is in play here. It's also the 'quality' of the mobo: SAM vs µ.

| A few days back I copied 28GB of large files from partition to another on my AMD64x2-3800+ (Linux) system and it went at the average speed of 17MB/sec. (the dive is a 250GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM SATA, ext4 filesystem) And all other file operation were almost locked during the process, very unresponsive system. It took tens of seconds for the system to do any file opening or program starting during that time. CPU load was something like 25% during the process.
Need to do some similar test on my puny SAM ... it might be competitive... UPDATE: Did some testing. It took less than 1 second to generate 1GB file... funny. ((mkfile bigfile.bin 1gb)) Then copying it to another partition took 71 seconds. (-> about 14MB/s) ((copy bigfile.bin to AmigaOS: echo $_RunTime )) And the system did not show any slowdown during the process! CPU load was about 17%. Opened notepad, calculator, simplemail(+checked mail), browsed web with IB ... at full speed. WOWOW!!!+dancingbananas
Same is not possible in my (x1000+ caliber) x86 Linux HW currently.
If x1000 can do partition to partition copy at 140MB/sec (70MB/s read+write), it seems damn good. if it does it without loosing responsiveness, it's mainstream killing performance!!! IM(very)HO.
btw. copying 100MB file to RAM happens 41.6MB/s. (CPU load about 65%) copying RAM to RAM happens in 58.8MB/s and filecopy HDD to NIL: happens 71MB/s Ok for this puny SAM. Copying a lot of files will show a lower transfer rate then copying 1 big file, normal. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |
