@jacadcaps

Good job ! Nice to see work going on.I feel MorphOS is spirit brother to AmigaOS,wish users got along better.

The MorphOS price is still a problem for me ,with current rate of exchange.

Now if you?,the MorphOS team could see the way to making MorphOS run on wider amount of G4 hardware;there are many PowerMac G4 desktop and laptops than minis.The iMacs would be a nice next step since the iMac was and is a fixed hardware profile ,i.e. the user can't swap video cards,etc.And more importantly,I already own a iMac G4 lampshade(as well as G4 towers.

Oh and congrats to the MOS team, I could see them getting quite a few new users out of this.
I think they should cut the price though, I was looing at Mac minis the other night and they were almost all below 150¤. I think 99¤ would be a much better price point, extra sales would make up for the lower price.

@Krashan
I know everything about the hardware problems and of course Mac Mini is a good solution for now where it's available.

It's nice hardware and although it does not have the best gfx chip it's probably still a good upgrade for those Peg2 owners who can find one for a reasonable price.

How does every thread on here keep turning into the same basic argument over and over? I regret ever fueling it... and I'm doing it again with 1 more post. Everyone needs to build a bridge.

@BigC

As far as I know, all G4 iMacs use NVidia graphics chipsets which MorphOS does not support. It is very unlikely that we will support any NVidia chips. Better forget about this one.

I think the best question to ask is what is closest in hardware to the G4 Mac Mini. I'd guess (possibly incorrectly) it might be G4 mac laptops, since the Mac Mini has a lot of laptop hardware in it and they are ATI graphics based.

I think their best strategy is to expand on other PPC Mac hardware that is easiest to get going first.

A tower Mac at least could get an ATI card installed in it as well.

@fairlanefastback

One of the more urgent requirements would be!

AmigaSYS / AmiKit packages for the OS, so tired of downloading and installing and configuring each and every system. I do that for a living already. I want more of a out-of-the-box set-up and forget about it approach.

In fact Amiga OS4.1 needs a AmigaSYS / AmiKit package also.

Good news for MorphOS, if there are many PPC Mac Minis available (I have always been a bit skeptical about that).

Hopefully OS4 will get some (more) good news of it's own, sooner rather than later . Although probably not a Mac Mini port!...

I doubt we have anything to worry about in that dept, short of everyone insisting on holding out for the model with 64MB of video RAM.

@Drako

Verry nice move, even the MiniMac PPC is nol onger produced,
and further Mac OS X will be Intel only.

Now, enjoy the fast MOS and Mac OS X boot option.

Would like to see AOS 4 team making their MiniMac realise,
so we get a triple boot machine and make everyone happy.

Wow, MOS on my Mini 1.25 is FAST!! Even with the 32MB Video RAM. The only thing I am upset about is the conversion for registration is $222.7833 US, not something I am willing to o right now.

Anybody tried booting it on any other model of mac? I have a blue and white G3 with a 500mhz G4 and a radeon 7000 at my sisters house, i may try it on that when just for fun when i visit at the end of the month (I'm not expexting it to work but would like to see how far it gets )

I have a G3 imac here but it only has a ATI rage 128 pro but i may try it anyway, it can't hurt, will be interesting to see what happens anyway.

@meet.mrnrg

There is an Amikit-like archive for MorphOS. It is named MorphOS Upgrade.
http://meta-morphos.org/download.php?op=mydown&did=688

It's still beta version. For exemple there is no list yet and there perhaps obsolete programs.

@TheMaskedMuchacho

It's a Mac mini port, so no other Mac are supported. Make a try on other models are useless.

@thread

To me adding support for Mac Mini may be something closer to bitter-sweet. Yes, it is nice to have a new platform, but the low cost of the Mac Mini may discourage any developers from coming out with new MorphOS-compatible hardware - they can't compete with the used Mac Mini market. In the long run this may hinder more than help MorphOS.

Hyperion is in the same boat - do they add Mac Mini support but then "destroy" the market for Sam or any Sam follow-ups? Would this discourage any other parties from coming out with new OS4 hardware?

I don't envy either platform - both choices have downsides.

I don't think MacMini for OS4 would destroy anything: SAM is a board targeted at embbed (ie: Linux), and I'd be surprise if SAM+OS4 was selling that much when compared with SAM+Linux...

SAM has been built for markets. Currently there's no market on Amiga flavours...
So releasing MacMini OS4 would certainly have an impact on OS4/SAM but surely not on people buying it for embbed...

@gregthecanuck

I agree with you - in the short run, it's great news but in the long run it would stop developement of new hardware for MOS.

@bitman

Will have an effect short to medium term, obviously.
I cant see it affecting MOS hardware development in the long run.

The second hand mini market can't last for ever, some people prefer new to second hand, and eventually the mini hardware wont be up to spec for what's required at that time.

@TiredofLife

I disagree... it's a nice solution for now.

How many AmigaOne's and SAMS are slod... rough guess: 5000 units.
How many PPC Mac Mini's are sold... rough guess: 400.000+ units.

This means every Amiga enthusiast that exists at the moment can have a MorphOS solution (the faastest native Amiga ever).

I really don't see a problem here.
Maybe this encourages Hyperion to make an Native OS4.x build for Intel/AMD hw.

Competition is gooood!!
