I have just got this info:

OK. You've been trying hard so we'll accept what you have collected so far.

(Payment)

We'll sort out the source files for you in the next few days.

@OlafS25

Thanks Olaf for starting this.
I hope someone will try to adapt it to OS4 too.

@thread

Perhaps magellan is not suitable at all as Wb replacement on AOS4, but ...
I wonder what is the status og NG WB.... IIRC, Current WB was going to be replaced one day.

((most likely Ambient would be simpler to adapt to AOS4 than DopusMagellan ...))

@KimmoK

unfortunatelly none has a expressed a commitment to port ambient neither to 68k nor to os4. first of all the open sourced version isnt apparently the current one, and beyond that amibient is told to be highly integrated and dependent of mos infrastructure. that said, id welcome it but.. magellan is just working out of the box on original amiga, aros68k and apparently mos and os4. perhaps its woth attention.

While I don't quite understand the excitement of getting hold of DOpus Magellan source code, it's still nice for this who may find it useful to get the opportunity to use it…

I prefer the original DOpus style (you know the two file list type for easy file management etc..) although having said that I use DirWork myself, I was just wondering does this include the source code for the original pre Magellan DOPus as that would be interesting to work on…

@KimmoK

Who cares about sucky WB replacement! DirOpus (all versions) has always worked best on a separate screen where you can have your listers set up permanently with quick switching to your favourite directories, like Downloads/ and RAM: and handle files quickly while keeping WB clean.

I really hate the 2-lister limitation of DOpus4. Been living with that crap for like 7 years now since I had to abandon Magellan on the A1200 for the crappy DOpus4 on the A1

Now with Magellan open source someone doesn't have to port every single peice of it (like the WBR code, FTP, built-in image and sound viewer and whatnot) which will take a longer time than forever (look at GuruMeditation's attempt). Now someone (me?) can first focus on getting listers and config to work - release - then take on the text viewer - release - then have a look at FTP for example - release - etc etc.

YaY!

am probably not that much excited about what factual use it could be for us all. magellan, as it is, is working well under aros68k too so far im able to tell (and is reliable and lightning fast in comparison to wanderer). although, sources available, it could be improved to the point being a complete workbench replacement. this and the fact that the considerable amount of bounty has reached its goal instead of just letting money dust on some account... and that another fine piece of essential amiga application has been rescued from decline, and brought into the open source maintenance... and, and, and.. is quite a positive achivement in my book.

Opus 4 has been open source for a long time. I know there is a maintained AmigaOS 4 version I would assume there is a 68k version, but where you find it I'm not sure.

I'm not sure there much point any more, we have Filer that does a very good job.
