That would be bad.

christoph, im not sure if you are right about this. my expectation is that arix is binary compatible to aros v1. sure it means it isnt compatible to aros v0, that means to the current aros binary pool, in this respect you were probably right.
but could we let that dammy bashing be for the time being? note, that i never expected antything to come out of anubis. this time i have a different opinion.Last edited by wawa on 18-Nov-2013 at 04:32 PM.

Just what we all needed, another Linux distro. And just as I predicted, another scam inflicted on Amigans who were hoping for something that wasn't another Linux distro.

and another amigan on warpath trying to get another scalp....
there are several people claiming to already use it. All are lying? And they are also saying it is not a linux distro. Again a "lie"? Last edited by OlafS25 on 18-Nov-2013 at 05:02 PM. Last edited by OlafS25 on 18-Nov-2013 at 05:01 PM.

I will just wait. Maybe I will get a beta who know :) |
Gosh, they had days to prepare a good website in teh background while this ridiculous counter was present. What did they do, just waiting and starting to make website once teh counter had been counted down? Profesionalism looks different IMHO. That dosen't mean the product itself may be fine though - but the 1st impression isn't._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

you are right there, it was not the best first impression now. But in a way it can only get better . More important is the product itself. Perhaps (for all camps) less annoucements/secrets/timers and more actual products. |

| I'm not one to post often.
This whole marketting experiment was embarrasing...
30 days of hype to reveal not even _1 Line_ to say what the project is or what the aim of the company is.
I'm all for creative marketting but don't waste people's time with hype.
The market is too fragmented and fed up of grandiose claims.
What is worse, nobody from the 'company' has even bothered to come onto this forum to explain to their only customers what the purpose of their product is and why someone may want it., when it will be available, who it will be available for and the most basic of all : will it be open source in the same vein as AROS or is this a commercial product and if so what price it will be available for.
Shocking.

I was referring to v0 of course, I'm not following AROS close enough to pass judgement on what v1 is or isn't and how much progress has been made.
You quoted from a moobunny posting, but left out the important part. I'll repost it here to make it clear what we're talking about :
"ARIX" was another name for the Anubis project [...]: AROS userland running on a Linux kernel.
I.e. giving up binary compatability with everything - including AROS - to gain some modern kernel features and access to lots of drivers. |

So in short, Arix is just another Linux distro with window dressing on top to make it look like Aros. [sarcasm on] What a shock! [/sarcasm off]

It wouldn't be "another Linux distro", it would be AROS with a different Kernel. You probably wouldn't notice any difference when using it, even if you stopped yelling at the screen for a minute.

Sorry to inform you but a Linux kernel with an AROS-looking window manager is still Linux. The same goes for Gnome or LXDE with a Linux kernel. It's still Linux. This is just Anubis part II and I wish dammy would take it to the Linux forums where it belongs. And I've not been yelling. YELLING is in all caps!
And I hope I'm wrong. I hope Arix is something new and worthwhile but the silence in response to all the criticism (not just my criticism) speaks volumes. Dammy's self-imposed deadline/countdown clock has ended so it's time to address the issues. But the silence tells me that that he isn't prepared or doesn't want to address any of the criticisms. And he has a history of doing things like this so I think the skepticism and criticism are warranted. Last edited by ferrels on 18-Nov-2013 at 06:57 PM. Can you tell us what the difference between this
Linux Kernel -> Linux OS -> AROS
and this
Linux Kernel -> AROS
In most people's view, one of these is hosted and the other is not. Can you see the difference?

| Well... I was defending Arix, saying it's silly to dismiss them because the countdown timer was inaccurate or go on a rant before a product is even released. But to be honest, it does look amazingly unprofessional at this point. I see no need to hype Amiga stuff nowadays as it is, seeing as so many hyped products were vaporware or a disaster. But if a company or group wants to do it, at least release info on the product after hyping it so much.
I see no reason they simply couldn't release their proper website now. It's not like they waited until the last day to make their website (I would think).
I am still hopeful Arix proves interesting. But I admit I am less hopeful now than I was a day ago.

| I can't understand why no one can even explain what the "product" is, even after the timer has run down.
Is it hardly surprising that people think this:
