Anyone got a clue to when AmigaOS 4.2 will be released? It would be a good christmas present for myself. :P

Seriously, maybe we'll have to wait for AmigaOne X5000 before AmigaOS 4.2 is released?

Is the X5000 supposed to be more powerful/expensive than the X1000?

@Everblue

Most often given response from the q/a:

Quote:
Your questions should be really directed to Hyperiion with regards to AmigaOS 4.2

Followed closely by "I hope so" (3 times) when asked if certain features would be supported.

Most recent update on one of those features:

He's referring to another "Hans", so I guess "ask Hyperion" is still the order of the day if you have questions about supported features.

I think any Amiga OS question should be answered "not in our lifetime" :D

I have no clue whether they have any intent to discuss any of this prior to that date.

Project delays usually increase development costs but whether these will be reflected in the end-consumer price of the X5000, only Kevin knows (where "Kevin" is any random being that knows nothing about anything).

@Trixie

the problem is that those who might know are constrained due to their NDAs with A-EON and hyperion, so they can't really confirm one way or the other. that said both firms typically update everyone with what's going on at amiwest every year, and that's about three weeks away, so....

Or choose not to speak out of consideration for others. Heh.

But as far as Cyrus goes, I should think that's based on any NDA drafted by A-EON with their early adopters, NOT Hyperion.
After all, they could be putting a different operating system on their machines for all we know. I don't see how Hyperion would come into play in that case.

The netbook? Keep in mind Steve was given an announcement to read. We all know where that one came from.

But last year, I remember the panel discussion quite well. They all expressed their difficult situation quite honestly. Perhaps it's all in how one reads things.

Saying a specific feature usually takes significant manpower, better documentation, etc. might equate to "oh good, then it's still being worked on!" to some people. And while that might well be true, it could read to others as an expression of how long and arduous the process might be, no?

dunno, but assuming the machine runs AOS4 and the testers would be running beta versions of same, then i would expect there would be a NDA for that. again, just an assumption.

Sure. But that's one case.

I'm talking about Linux, MorphOS, AROS, etc. etc.

A-Eon wants to sell these machine and I sincerely doubt there is some "edict" out there saying another OS can not be installed because of some legality.

I think it's rather telling the # of linux threads on Amigaworld in the past year. Continued development would mean continued interest/demand for same.
MOL? Thread here, but ditto shut down on Hyperion's site.
Sure Hyperion doesn't want people to use another operating system, but they have never ever expressed a legal view that they can NOT.

huh? i think we're talking about two different things? i simply suggested that people who know about cyrus and the state of AOS4 on that machine are not able to discuss matters due to NDAs. you suggested that hyperion would have nothing to do with that, and i countered that since they are *also* testing a beta version of AOS4 as well as the cyrus hardware, there would be a NDA between the testers and hyperion, too.

that's all. i was just explaining why the testers can't comment. not about linux, AROS, MOS, or anything else. and i certainly did not suggest some edict preventing them from installing another OS.
