I know I only come over here with problems :). but as I'm still awaiting funds to get the X5000, I thought I'd try and install my AmigaOS 4.1 PPC using AF 2016. The problem is, I can't get anywhere.

Trying to install the Classic version (with the BootFile.adf image found on the DVD) doesn't work at all, as in nothing boots.

Trying the installation with the PPC version... I see the boot screen for about half a second before it is replaced with the usual intro text output before WB 3.x loads... and the CD drive (I made an ISO image of each CD) keeps flashing, accessing... as if it's installing, but eventually fails.

Has anyone tried to do this installation? I'll try the installations one more time to capture screenshots and post them on here. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Stan

@StantheAmigaMan

Hi Stan,

I covered the AmigaOS 4.1 install under Amiga Forever 2016 with my blog entry here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2015/12/amiga-forever-2016.html

I hope this helps!

Also, I wrote a blog entry today on Flower Pot AmigaOS 4 emulation installation under Windows 10 (with links to earlier blog posts covering AmigaOS 4.1 installs under WinUAE and FS-UAE) if that helps you also!

@Epsilon

Thank you for the links! I will try one and then probably get FlowerPot just because it runs natively under my Mac. :)

I'm also installing AspireOS under VMWare Fusion just to test it out. :)
You may have just saved me $2000. ;)

Much cheaper A1222 may be released this year - could be better choice than X5000 (if emulation is not enough for you, of course).

Note Fast RAM above 128 MB in WinUAE/FS-UAE is activated only by adding bootloader options in startup-sequence (4.1FEu1). WinUAE is faster than FS-UAE for OS4.

@pavlor

is that going to be a tower system or desktop? And will it be available worldwide? I only see its price mentioned as 400 Euro.

@StantheAmigaMan

A1222 will have tiny motherboard, so easily fit small cabinet.

AmigaONE A1222 is single core computer, expansion is limited.
AmigaONE X5020 you get now, it dual core CPU.
AmigaONE X5040 will come after I guess.

Dual core, quad core, only matters if AmigaOS4.2 ever comes out with SMP support.

Speaking as someone lucky enough to own the X5000 and yes i realise it is expensive for some, I can wholeheartedly endorse its purchase
