Leuven, Belgium - 3. March, 2005

Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new AmigaOne firmware update for registered customers of AmigaOS 4.0. New features in this release include

- Improvements in the x86 BIOS emulator
- Reworked IDE/ATA-Code with better support of multiple IDE controllers
- Preliminary support for the Catweasel Mark IV controller by Individual Computers

From the feature list, it doesn't really sound like I desperately need it...oh, wait, it's newer. It's got a bigger version number. Of course I'm desperate to have it! (I'm the guy who's shooting with a 20 year old SLR and never got a new computer between my A4000 and my A1, btw, but let's not go there. )

So thanks, it's always nice to get updates.

@Bodies

Do you guys ever interact in the real world?

I thought this was real... that the so-called "real" world (you know with those things called suns and flowers) was just an escapade...

You need it for the upcoming Warp3D release, otherwise performance in fullscreen will be bad (the IRQ setup prevented the VBI from working - this release fixes it). But other than that, flashing the firmware is always a bit risky, so if your system works I would think twice about updating.

I've seen it, it's rubbish.

You don't bother with eating, sleeping, showering and other such trivial, earthly, matters, do you?

Suns and flowers, btw...you mean like "Sun Microsystems" and "Petunia"? Don't see how they're connected, though..

Okay, enough with the OT, back OT... This is me, getting excited about DL'ing the firmware upgrade!

Is it needed for the µA1-C? I mean I don't see anything updated in use for the micro:
Quote:
- Improvements in the x86 BIOS emulator

Huh, why x86 BIOS emulator is needed at all?
Quote:
- Reworked IDE/ATA-Code with better support of multiple IDE controllers

The IDE controller is built-in and I don't see the need of adding another one (on the SE/XE models this is different story).
Quote:
- Preliminary support for the Catweasel Mark IV controller by Individual Computers

I don't plan to buy Catweasel anytime soon.
Quote:
- Ability to choose graphics card for booting

The graphics card is built-in and I don't see the need for adding a new one.
Quote:

The graphics card is built-it. No AGP one. The other bug fixes makes me curios. Oh well, going to update my BIOS now.

AFAIK its for using standard PC graphics cards - they need initialising and this has to be done pretending that it's a PC. I'd imagine that the MicroA1 needs this process too, since its onboard graphics are still a standard chipset.

I can't get Linux to boot no more. I got it installed on its own harddrive. "Diskboot" used to complain about the ide-controller (don't remember the exakt message) and now it says that disk 0 is unavailable.

I got the correct settings in uboot.

Help...

To run a x86 BIOS, as found in your graphics card.

That is what it was meant for.

Yes, the builtin graphics chip *is* an AGP one.

If you didn't experience any problems before, there is really no need to upgrade.

diskboot has a new parameter. What controller are you using?

drhirudo:

if none of the things mentioned in the release notes / doc is of no interest well then i would mention that it boots alot faster here than compared to the old uboot...but then again ..might just be my luck

questioning bugfixes is kinda weird since u after all run a developer pre release and well bugs is bugs and there is lots of final software out in the world that acts like beta so why wouldnt a beta plattform as the one we have atm be any diffrent?
