hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Amiga Fantasy Design Change Announcement
   posted by AmigaMac on 10-Dec-2005 19:06:31 (6491 reads)
Reality Design - Project: Reality

Amiga Fantasy Design Change Announcement
December 10th, 2005

The Project Reality team just had a big meeting over the weekend and we wanted to let the Amiga community know that there has been a major change in the Amiga Fantasy design... in fact a brand new wedge style shape. We know that some of you will be disappointed that Marko HIRV's vision will remain a fantasy, but one should understand that technical issues sometimes lead to a "rewrite" so-to-speak. The Project Reality team is however pleased to come up with something as beautiful and even more modern regarding today's industry products design, preserving the Amiga visual identity thank's to our french designer that created this Amiga's evening dress. This design change will both resolve various technical issues as well as better appeal to not only the current Amiga market specifically, but also to those of new and old to the Amiga platform.

At the moment we cannot show any images of the new design, but we promise that it's already being worked on and has been in development for awhile now, and this last meeting we had was to approve the design change and how we'll go forward from here.

I can say this; you won't be disappointed in the new design, unless we fail to bring it to market. So keep your fingers crossed

Thanks for your great patience and understanding and we look very forward to release what we hope will be a wonderful Amiga computing experience for all to enjoy.

I'm sure I won't be disappointed Perhaps the new design is a more angular shape, like the A1200?

BTW does anyone know what's happened to the Reality Design webpage?

Sounds cool. I thought for a moment there you were going to announce that it was cancelled!

Glad to hear that things look positive as I believe this to be a very important part of any Amiga 'comeback'.

Just like many other amiga projects, lots of promises, talk, but in the end...
Hope I'm wrong but don't think we will ever see the result of this project.
PS You guys should update your FAQ.

@Pentrite

That's being a bit pessimistic, maybe they'd be more motivated to get it finished with a bit more encouragement rather than doubt.

Not owning a microA1 the only thing I'm worried about is that I won't have anything to put inside my nice shiny new case..

Will they be doing a version for the Troika Amy05?

This whole thing seems very unprofessional,... I mean really, how long does it take to design and manufacture a case ??... granted the people behind it arent business men, but so far it has reeked of incompetence... for eg. I really think you should remove the "amiga" part of the name and also aim it towards all mini atx/itx/whatever boards,.... makes it a lot more feasible when there's an actual market for a product,.... also a few other things that seem very obvious to me seems to be either unmentioned, or not even thought of,.......... good luck to all those involved, but personally Id be surprised if this ever sees the light of day, at least through this particular group of people,..... there's definately a market for this style case, would be a shame if someone else did it properly 1st...............

We've been conversing with the Troika folks and will be trying to incorporate their mobo into our design without modification other than the backplate. We certainly hope that Eyetech pulls through and delivers on new MicroA1s, but the Amy '05 board should serve us well also.

Why all the hostility guys? It's not like anyone pre-paid or anything. Maybe it will come to life or maybe not, but at least they are attempting to do something.

Abandon your hopes.

What we need is hardware. We certainly won't get it from Eyetech anymore. We have "Amiga fantasy", we have the "Give Amy her Face contest", we have people rendering and designing cases. You could just as well design some "Boing ball" t-shirts.
The advantage would be that we would acutally have something to put in - our bodies.

@fishy_fis

Why don't you join the Team and "enlight" them ?
And once you have that case produced, you could also take on AmigaInc & Eyetech and deliver us a "cutting edge" new AmigaOne ?
Were have you been the past 15 years ? We need you to make the AmigaDream Come true !
We could even rename the whole thing like the Ami_Fishy ! That will be great !

@Reality_Project_Team
Thanks for the news. I am looking forward to it !
It's just a shame I don't have enough spare time to contribute. BUT I am likely to buy it as soon as it's available as well as a new MicroA1/Troika... Maybe the next project will be a cool Design for the A1-XE ?...

Jerry

From the FAQ:

"Q. What about a TV out like the A1200?
A. Both Micro A1 models have SVGA, SVHS and composite video outputs as standard. These however can only be used as and when OS4 supports them."

The standard is called S-Video, not SVHS. SVHS refers to a video recording standard, S-Video is an analog video signal standard.

"Q. When will the Amiga Fantasy be available?
A. We are looking to have a prototype system ready the first half of 2005, with full systems and cases available sometime later in the year."

Change it to "when it's done". This seems to make more sense for any Amiga items.

@fishy_fis

Of course it seems unprofessionnal, because we are not professionnal at the moment. i.e. we are doing this on our free time (giving that everybody have a life too) for now, and it is my first project of case design. But customer doing case design is a consequence of the state of the Amiga market. We are developping this case for this Amiga market (in fact, it's future market, we hope), but just in case of, it will be compatible to all mini-IT board (giving that there's a standard for screw points). For the moment, there's no Amiga name engraved on the case (it would be cool, yes, but there's the licence thing). Like everybody a bit serious in the Amiga scene today, we are not that dumb (well, i guess ).

Beside that, I bought a MicroAOne/OS4 and am porting an appealing A68k library (that's also a reason of the delay) to it. What else can i do ? It's quite enough to me.

Kind Regards.

So whats the difference between your case and any other Mini-ITX case currently available, then? The latter are mass-produced, readily available and relatively cheap.

@hatschi

Well, it's still the concept of the A1200 : "wedge" style, all-in-one (keyboard, mobo, HDD, DVD).
