Right now it's probably only for Classic, but I hope some OS4 developer will help Diego make a native version of the program.

I had it working (kind of) with the "ready-to-run" package, that is no config
files, no settings and such, PLUS i forgot to assign the LIBS dir

Wasn't able to download anything, though

After adding the assign it crashes at the point the MUI libs are loaded (i think)

Anyway it does only come up with the splash screen, but didn't get through to
the GUI anymore.

I remember having this problems with MUI interface with an earlier 68k version, too

downloading it right now.

according to the changelog there were some problems fixed to let it run on os4.
iirc i read several month (years?) ago that there will be an os4 native port available - i hope so!

Yet another example of a software news announcement which can't be bothered to spare 1 sentence and tell us WHAT THE SOFTWARE DOES! Is it so much to ask? Remember, most of the people reading these announcements don't have your product already, and maybe have never even heard of it, let alone know what it might be written for.

This time I even made an exception to my "ignore it if the news item doesn't inform me" rule, and clicked the link. Even looking at the webpage all I know is that it's some sort of P2P application that does different protocols.

Maybe it's just my grumpy curmudgeon day. And you kids, get off my lawn.

I agree, although if it said something like "Firefox is out!!!" I think it should also be noted which platforms its running on... There are no games based on Clint Eastwood films available for the Amiga (yet!) - thats a big frustration...

I get an error during startup though;
'Internal Error: loading giftd.conf... doenst exists...?'

but that might be a config file... food now, then more testing!

it looks very good so far, the gui i mean.

guys, this pre release is so all of you can help betatest it on OS4 and other OS's , bitching without arguments (ie crashlogs or walkthroughs) is USELESS! , do your work and help out , ok?.

As for OS4 developers, yes they are still needed and i was one of the guys who joined in early but i have been too busy to do anything but read mails on the list for a long time (and ofcourse, network code is not exactly something i understand :I) , so i hope this pre release will attract some programmer to fix/help Amigift.

it doesnt need a 20/20 guy to see that a lot of work has been put into amigift and i hope that is something people notice and based on this they will try and help.

As for the news item, yes not very informative and i hope some moderator will insert the real GIFT description along with what is in the news item allready.
As for it beeing finally released, great! , keep up the good work diego.

First an BIG THANKS to the Developers
It is a bit difficult to install [but it is so marked "prerelase/beta" ]
but then it runs better than the 1.x versions
Lower CPU hungry .. only rare system locks .. very fast DL ..
And now it is possible to deaktivate the Aminet plugin..
[it is in my point useless anyway ! A web browser is started faster
than the Amigift+Giftmui system !! ]

This are the good news .. now the bad ..

WHY is the Chat funktion not deaktivable ??
[i have a chat prg installed .. so i need an filesharing prg ..
not a second chat prg !!]
WHY will giftmui start every time the daemon ??
[i start the daemon from an cli script !]
WHY is giftmui shut down the daemon on quitting giftmui ?
[who is the advantage from an daemon that run nicely in the
background if i musst have ever open the gui ????]
AND .. WHY come from various funktions the message :
"... only for registriered User" ?????
If i musst in the end pay for Amigift ??
[i hope more and more for eDonkey on AmigaOS ...]

If the above "bad" points sorted .. this is a very good relase ..

For the full Use of the prg .. a shareware musst pay ..

mhhh .... on the start from 1.x he says "full free" filesharing for Amiga ..
I have no problem to pay for very good additional futures .. but for a very
basic P2P function [sources locaten] .. ??

yepp, same thing here, problem open amigift library.
i guess minor fixes are needed, the program looks VERY promising.
And as toaks said, it looks like a LOT of work has gone into it.

..very strange here...click on AGift Icon..Amigift is starting without any error..after stratin connecting to server...have info "Welcome to the FileSharing world .. and after that bump..request whit only OK button..without any info...click on OK..and Amigift is closing?? any know what is problem??
