Sounds like a company (Sotec) went out and kept fidgeting with programs, until it got something to work, but, is it a closed system, or can you do other things with it too?

No, Sotec just assembled commodity parts that are now cheap as heck. It's not a closed system, just an ordinary x86 box with Windows installed. You could run (and we probably will) another x86 OS on it.

Would not these questions be better presented to those that actually did these things? Its unrealistic to ask Gary to speak for people about things which he may well know nothing about, and may well alienate the guy.

Sure, I'd love to ask and get answers from Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss, but that doesn't mean Garry Hare shouldn't have an strong opinion about it. After all, if you just bought a major piece of tech IP from a company and their people continued to claim it as their own and describe their future plans and current development efforts and so on for it, wouldn't you wonder what was going on and maybe ask them why they were doing that and tell them to stop? I mean this is the natural reaction in a normal business situation; obviously something was not as it seemed.

Quote:
Its not the place of KMOS to form a rescue package for another company, nor it it the place of Gary to speak of other companies, and/or the actions they did or did not take.

Actually KMOS did cooperate in a rescue package of sorts as Mr. Hare describes in detail, regarding the perceived threat to Amiga IP. Despite your contention, this isn't an issue, it's a demonstrated fact. My question is simply why he didn't show the same concern earlier in the process.

Quote:
I see nothing good coming of these questions to someone who is not in a position to speak with authority on these matters and may well do nothing more than stir up trouble.

I realize these questions are apt to make Mr. Hare uncomfortable. For a "fan" that would be a good reason not to ask them; for someone looking for full disclosure on the Amiga IP sale, the point isn't to avoid making the person uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to "stir up trouble" to get to the bottom of things.

That's obvious.

No, Atheist, that's not at all obvious. Have a good look at the current OS options available to mobile service providers, etc. and tell me where Amiga OS's advantages are. If you think it's obvious, then please spend a couple of minutes listing them, with reference to existing opptions. Keep in mind that this is a highly competitive, fast-moving area of technology that has been in development continuously since its inception, whereas AmigaOS is essentially dormant technology that, while it was advanced when it was being developed, is just now being brought into the modern computing world and still lacks a lot of things that mobile operators take for granted.

It would be stupid NOT to put more money into finishing AOS for PPC A1 and making >4.0 versions....but why does he need to answer that?

I asked because AOS for PPC A1 is Hyperion's project, not KMOS's. KMOS seems to be interested in other markets, although Mr. Hare mentions the serendipity of programs running "cross-platform". Earlier, regarding the legal problems, IonMane referred to these being separate companies with no obligation to each other; now regarding funding and development are they all working together with money flowing freely between them? Which way is it?

For a person that probably will never buy an AmigaOne, you sure are inquisitive, I don't understand how your mind works.

Simple: I like puzzles. And it bugs me when I think people are b*llsh*tting me.

These questions are as unreasonable as it would be to ask the CEO Buger King about why the executives at Diageo plc. did something.

I don't think your comparison is accurate. These are not totally unrelated companies. Mr. Hare makes it clear in his interview that there is cooperation on some level, and his actions related to the court case show that he's far from detached. While the management of Amiga, Inc. has no involvement in KMOS, according to Mr. Hare, I would guess that behind the scenes there are investors, etc. in common.

Quote:
You are suggesting that there was a threat to that particular IP, when there is no evidence of such. You have invented a scenario and made it out to be fact. The interview stated the reasons why the IP was bought and why KMOS was formed.

Yes, rereading the interview, I see now that a threat to the Amiga IP was not mentioned as a reason for Itec and then KMOS to buy the IP. So I'll withdraw that scenario; thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Quote:
Very nicely done Gary. I may not agree with you views, but I continue to be impressed by your mastery of spin.

I think "spin" means intentional distortion in a presentation of information. Really, I am not intentionally trying to distort anything. I am looking at this situation as a skeptic (because from the beginning things didn't add up, in my opinion) and trying to make sense of it. I admit that some of my motivation originates from the early arrogance of Amiga, Inc. and their accusations of others. Where I've misread things, I'm willing to amend my view, as in the previous paragraph, because this gets us closer to reality. But where information is missing or contradictory, I still have questions.

@Billsey

Quote:
Didn't the Hare interview also state that Amiga, Inc. passed due diligence? That's hard to do if they're nothing but a bunch of crooks and liars as some here (to whom you have responded) are trying to imply.

As I understand it, actual due diligence isn't required in sales such as this one, perhaps as it was conducted between privately-held companies. What Mr. Hare referred to as due diligence shouldn't be confused with the rigorous examination generally associated with the term. Consequently, whether or not "crooks and liars" were involved would not be resolved. If you are saying that I'm calling these people "crooks and liars," I want to emphasize that I am not. I am only asking questions, and hoping for clarification. It would hardly be reasonable for me to say Mr. Hare is not telling the truth at this point, but as my questions indicate, I feel there are issues that haven't been explained sufficiently.
