You really do seem to have a big inferiority complex to have to advertise a memory expansion at the top of every page! Are you a suboptimal member? Most definitely IMHO!

I'm genuinely curious. Every meme, troll etc tends to have some origin story. What's the significance of the continued Zorram reference? _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

It was a tongue in cheek thing. Amiga will never run Doom. AB3D2's 2.5D engine was technically more advanced than Dooms, some even referred to it as a "doom killer". I didn't really buy that, since as a gaming experience, doom is rather different. And still holds up today. Nevertheless, it seemed appropriate that a doom killer should perhaps allow you to slay the slayer...
I actually thought of making him a boss, but he looked so insignificant in game that I made him nuisance bullet sponge cannon fodder instead. Something you could use to help make sure you don't exit a level completely weighed down with surplus ammo. Last edited by Karlos on 18-Aug-2022 at 09:01 AM.

Inquisitive friend Karlos,
I sigh in pleasure at your thirst for knowledge, sitting at my towering mahogany desk that just received a generous fresh lacquering from fine craftsmen of the highest lineage.
May your thirst be quenched:
ZORRAM.
There's a euphony to it. It rolls on the tongue, bursts loudly in the chest, and yet it evokes mirthful thoughts of Zorro, but in an ancient Rome context.
ZORRAM.
A ram expansion out of context becomes something else. A moment of comic relief. A mark that denotes "this thread, my dearest friends, has been derailed".
ZORRAM.
Pay attention, warm comrade Karlos! Pay attention to threads that stood on the brink of being ZORRAM-ED, staring into the chasm over that 19th, 18th post, and yet were left alone.
Is there a pattern, to those lucky thread? Is there? I am sure, my sweetest friend, you will find it.
ZORRAM.
A tapestry of past and future, dream cascading into one another, a hint to this old man's true identity.
Always yours, /mega_________________ I HAVE ABS OF STEEL -- CAN YOU SEE ME? CAN YOU HEAR ME? OK FOR WORK |

Could you add a character based on Mega that fires pieces of obsolete circuit boards and ram chips at the player before pausing and spouting eloquent smack talk drivel while ever shrinking in stature giving the player ample opportunity to fly swat him before he self destructs from shear self-importance? _________________ "Art challenges technology. AB3DII feels like a game that was released too soon |
That's because it was. There's interviews with Andy Clitheroe where he says he never really got to finish the game with Team17, given the Amiga's commercial death, only allowing it to be published as an homage of sorts to the Amiga, but it had to be released within a timeframe or else they wouldnt have published it, so he had to put together what he had done already in the most cohesive package he could before he got to finish the game properly.
It was never, as BigD suggested (shock horror, BigD is completely off the mark *again*) a tech demo used to sell Blizzard accelerators (what a moronic suggestion; there was no connection between Team17 and Phase 5 and the deal to package them together was only done *after* what was finished was already released). How someone can be so consistently wrong is actually impressive. |

That's what it became though; a glorified tech demo. The game design wasn't strong enough to warrant playing the 2x2 pixel version and even a 060 50MHz machine struggled with thex1x1 pixel version. So the still frame grabs looked good but it didn't hold together. More of a proof of concept that the Amiga was capable of better than Doom. Shame that Doom was more fun! Karlos' Mod injects some fun back into it though. It should have been a RTG game with stable frame rates on a 060 or they could have made a polished 1x1 version of the original AB3D game. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Comparing doom and alien breed is a bit chalk and cheese. The only thing that they have in common is the basic genre. Doom was fast, almost arcade like. Your character was powerful, able to slay demons by the dozen. I mean, seriously, you could outrun your own rockets. It was an ego trip and as people have said since the reboot: You're not trapped in a confined space with demons; they're trapped with you.
The alien breed scenario is different. It's tense and brooding. You aren't absurdly powerful. There are no power ups, ammo and health are more scarce. The enemies aren't all just independent and prone to infighting (funny fact, this was a bug in doom, resold as a feature), they could be set up as teams in various ways.

Agreed, the Alien Breed games are more survival horror than arcade shoot-em-up! Thank you for making the second outing more fun. Good work. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

This is good news. I downloaded the sources years ago. But they were the typical source dump. No readme or obvious way to assemble it all. At the time I wanted to release my own port. I was going to call it AB3D: TNG. It was simply going to be an OS4 compatible AB3D. Then after I was going to consider using PPC680x0 to assemble a native version. But, nothing happened. I didn't get off the starting block. |

I am interested to try pipper's build in OS4 on my A1200. As a more system friendly executable it's possible it will run. I haven't turned the machine on in over a year or so. The hard disk got taken out to be imaged and I've still not put it back in.
My specific interest is in an RTG version, especially if I can get an RGB rendering. I've forked the repo but haven't made any significant exploration yet. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |
