Mentioning the X1000 in a post is like setting off a stink bomb. However, I read in a blog that the X1000 will have Amiga OS 4.2 when it's introduced. That gives some idea of the timeline. Probably a year away. I could probably come up with the money to buy one now if they were on sale. I'm afraid the current AOS-based computers are too slow for what I want. I'm reluctant to spend a thousand dollars on something not appreciably faster than my micro. So like lots of others I'm waiting and getting older by the year. I can see myself in a rest home with a new X1000 on the desk in front of me, too senile to figure out how to turn on the power.

So, I guess I have two questions: Is the X1000 introduction waiting for 4.2 and is there anything for sale now that is significantly faster than my micro?

@thinkchip
Or, it could mean that by year end we'll get both the X1000 and OS4.2...

P.S
As Aeon's advertisement on Amiga Future states: "2011 the year we arrived"

@thinkchip

I think update 3 will be ready in August.
AmigaONE-X1000 is mostly it’s an opportunity to go 64bit and add SMP support to AmigaOS4, It will be the fastest AmigaOS4 hardware around, and the only option if your prefer AmigaOS4.

@DAX

It’s not that many months to December, and update 3 is not out yet.
My best guess is on the New Year (January / February) 2012.

Yes the Sam460 has a lot faster Graphic card, faster bus speed, faster RAM, better control logic, faster USB, more graphic memory..

(All you need to do is wait for update 3)

@NutsAboutAmiga
Update3 however is almost finished and a few guys can put the finishing touches there (including guys like SSolie, Rigo, Acube's m3x, and the likes) while the main programmers (the Friedens, Olaf Barthel, Hans the Ruiter and some other new entry that got in with the last call to arms) could be working on 4.2 in parallel.
I don't think Aeon can or should miss 2011's Christmas period, but then again anything goes in Amigaland so we will have to wait and see what happens as usual...

naturally these are just speculations, but I guess the new AmigaOne is going to be marketed before the end of the year with AmigaOS 4.2 with:
- Gallium3D
- maybe SMP
- maybe Timberwolf and perhaps Open Office

@klx300r

All improvements (beside SMP) would be nost beneficial to all AOS 4.x users

Hyperion Keep On doing it!

While all the rest is announced and well expected,
only OO progress is shady ... Could some help in machines fron programming machines or bounty speed up or help?

Would gladly support it since Office suite is benefitial like the web browser.

My guesstimates:

Optimistic: OS4.1u3 in August, X1000 and OS4.2 in December

Realistic: OS4.1u3 in October, X1000 in December with OS4.1u3, OS4.2 in Summer 2012

Pessimistic: OS4.1u3 in December, X1000 in Summer 2012 with Linux Debian, OS4.2 in January 2013.

Masochistic: 2 more weeks!

@retro

If i recall well, the Amiga OpenGL implementation will be something slight different from Gallium and Mesa. Mesa doesn't allow for full OpenGL 4.x compatibility. It's seems that Mesa still around OGL 2.x. Hyperion goal is to create an architecture fully openGL compliant. Don't know how much Gallium and Mesa will come into game in this. Maybe only some parts of Mesa and Gallium will be used.
I hope that Rogue will give us more information sooner or later. Some screenshots and earlier demo would be appreciated, if any.

:)

You recall wrong, Hyperion many times says that they will port Gallium + Mesa. I.e. the same as on AROS currently.

He already give all the information already , and not one time (on amigans.net). And that information mean : gallium + mesa.

@kas1e

From Hyperion blog:

"Provide a hardware-accelerated OpenGL for applications, games, and the operating system.
Provide a driver interface with maximum flexibility. We do not want to count exclusively on Gallium3D as a basis for drivers, although it will be a fundamental one.
Provide a low-level API that does not depend on high-level constructs like Windows or Screens. While it should be possible to render to these, it should not depend on any of them.
Be able to upgrade to the latest OpenGL version, depending on driver support.
Support multi-threading and multiple CPU's."

and again:

"The internal driver interface is designed to be usable with or without Gallium3D. Obviously, the focus of our work will be Gallium-based, but what if there is a graphics card that does not support the required level of shader support to be able to work with Gallium? For this purpose, opengl.library (the central hub of the OpenGL system on AmigaOS) is able to load and operate drivers that only provide a minimal set of internal functions plus the required entry points for OpenGL. That way, it is possible to use a Mesa based driver, or even a completely custom driver, for hardware that is not supported by Gallium3D."
