Hi All,

I have updated my blog with a new entry looking at the recently released Amazing Voxel Bird Saga for AmigaOS4 on the AmigaOne X1000.

I also included a Youtube clip of the gameplay in the review also.

Link is here:

I hope you enjoy it!

Nice review as always, tho I cant help but think the size vs gap of the blocks in the beginning is a bit over the top/too narrow. I played the orginal on a ipad and it was "much" easier. The "gap" leaves not room for error.

But cool all the same.

Important to me is use of "the browser" to navigate the many, many html files I have on my AmigaX1000 (and AmigaOne.. and Amiga1200 before that) whose links use Amiga Volume syntax, with which IBrowse (still the fastest by the way) works flawlessly with, but NONE of the other browsers follow/emulate/copy/...

That probably means your links are not in the correct form (which is actually UNIX format, regardless of platform). Have you tried NetSurf? I took care in ensuring it would interpret common (but technically invalid) file: URLs, such as ones containing Amiga paths.

Don't worry, it is NOT Flappy Bird.
The game is more about the fun when ramming through the environment, not so much about exact navigation.
1. you got a health bar, you can take quite some damage. Plus you can recharge when eating red flowers.
2. collision checks are rather generous
3. there's plenty of help in form of bombs and mushrooms (grow and become invincible)

@Daytona675x

Hint:
You can fly over all the blocks to avoid hitting the sides in narrow areas...

This does mean that some checkpoints will be missed as they are in the middle of the blocks.

Yes - but then you don't get a good score

@noXLar
Because it needs a depth-buffer and some other drawing features like face-coloring that Compositing doesn't support.

@Daytona675x

Out of curiosity;

Will the game work on 1st generation ipads?

Got my pad from work, and since i dont really like IOS im not likely to upgrade.
Some games wont work with the oldest ipads since the OS support for them are ended.

Didnt see any update regarding ipad version of Amazing Voxel Bird Saga, but checked app store and found it available.

Got the full version and find it entertaining!

I guess its like many other ipad games, perfect for those quick sessions when you know you have somewhat limited time.

Good stuff!

Hi All,

Today I have updated my X1000 blog to look at the YouTubeCentre plugin with Odyssey 1.23.r3, and a quick look at LiveForIt Mplayer and Mplayer GUI.

Link is here:

I hope you enjoy it!

Nice read!

Enjoy your recent blog entries, Epsilon! These developments you have written about now -- new Odyssey port and a new MPlayer than can manage 720p video playback -- have added immeasurably to my enjoyment of my X1000. Thanks to all involved.

I do find that the new Composition output mode is the only way I can play 720p videos on my system without skips or losing sync. This mode is a godsend!

@pavlor

The the speed comes from using ARGB bitmap, instead of RGB bitmap when drawing the graphics.
Not composition, composition only does hardware scaling.
So wpa_cgx (p96_wpa) might tiny bit faster, but you can't go full screen.

Yes I found the choice of using cgx_wpa instead of comp a bit odd, as I don't think he can see anything noticable difference in speed. Unless he benchmarks.

The old “comp” in my first version of LiveForIt Mplayer might have been faster then cgx_wpa, but there many side effects of using composition directly on the screens bitmap. (window bitmap was ignored by composition even if I tried)

Personally I like to be able to scale the window down if I like too.

I like to change the name of cgx_wpa to p96_wpa or some thing like that, but then Deniil might get some problems supporting different mplayers, or maybe not.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Hey there! Thanks again for your work on this program. On my X1000 there's no doubt comp mode playback is smoother than cgx_wpa, which is jerky at 720p. This is windowed mode without resizing or going fullscreen. Perhaps I don't have the best version of your player??? Should I be using 3.1 altivec or the 2.1 that is on the Depot?

@mbrantley

if so then some thing is wrong, I have spent most of my time on comp, so maybe some thing I have not done on wpa_cgx yet.

Well as long as you talk about window mode not full screen.

@NutsAboutAmiga

OK. Could be something weird with my setup. Comp mode has me tickled pink in any event. I won't derail this thread too much, but will pick it back up in the big Amigans thread if I think of anything to add on the matter. Otherwise, will just run tests like crazy next time you release something. :)
