That was a photo of the Cyrus Plus dev board booting AmigaOS for the first time. Cyrus just happens to use the x-kernel exclusively unlike the X1000 which can run either kernel. At some point we'll merge the two kernel streams together of course. |
Just to clarify, and manage expectations somewhat, would you comment on the following:
- X-Kernel (a fork of the standard kernel) is being ported to Cyrus. I would expect that porting to Cyrus will be done with the stable/unmodified x-kernel (ie with the same functionality enabled as the standard kernel, but with name/versioning information changed). - I would expect that experimental work on x-kernel will be done on X1000 where there is a stable reference point (standard kernel) already running. - I anticipate that the AmigaOS 4.1.7 to be released with Cyrus is unlikely to have any additional 'x-kernel' functionality enabled (ie multicore, 64-bit).
Good news that you have 4.1 booting on the Cyrus, but let's not raise expectations that booting x-kernel means booting with multicore/64-bit enabled atm. _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

Can we expect some videos of it working as emulator and with native games? _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja |

This was followed by an explanation of how they are approaching it through Winsys/DRI to talk to the rest of the framework. It's mentioned as a "final step" where the OS is adapted to the Gallium drivers.

Anyway I liked Amiwest 2013 - watching online was an experience in itself.
I think for Amiwest 2014, we could have a film budget so users can donate through the year and have enough $$ eg 200 usd to hire a camera guy to record all speeches.
Also extra mics, equipment, props, pamphlets etc another fund.
We keep striving to better the experience and maybe even advertising budget via donations. What do people think ?
Also I would have liked that after each presentation have a short q/a on IRC.
Funds also to hire special guests to teach/present their knowledge etc.
Alot of possibilities. We have a year - what can we achieve ?
What do people reasonably want for 2014 ?

You claim to support Trevor in all he does, yet you feel the need to stab him in the back. Your effort will not be forgotten if you follow through.
You have no idea how hard the developers are trying to get new things working. You can blame us beta testers for no updates because we keep finding bugs that stop releases
"The beatings will continue until morale improves", perfect sig for you..

All true, and that will be point of no end user support if we go to court. You gave me beta OS telling me I will get real thing. Beta isn`t supporting the hardware yet = unfinished system, while you gave me no guarantee of finalized product or timeline. Not even crumbs meanwhile, you kind of said "We are moving to X2000 - don`t touch our priorities". |
@vox
Sounds a bit harsh :) As a recent X1000 purchaser there were a few sub-optimalities in the purchase process, but these were ironed out as quickly as possible by Trevor, Steve Solie and AmigaKit.
Reading the material supplied with my X1000, I'm under the impression that it is still considered a 'First Contact" system, and 4.2 will be made available when it is ready. In the meantime, I've founds 4.1 u6 to be very stable for everyday use... I'm not sure if it deserves a beta label.
Whether 4.2 ends up being free or not... well personally I would be happy enough to pay a reasonable upgrade fee anyway. And as much as I love the X1000, I'm very much looking forward to the "X2000" and beyond.

This thread is about amiwest.
Let's just not listen to the "voice" and continue the real thread.
We are already planning how to get better audio at Amiwest2014 (17 years)

Current AEON-Hyperion scheme leaves me no choice, I dislike that the most.
It should not be forgotten, because it should end in court order that support must be better and all my reparations will go to AEON and AmigaOS software.

My morale is healthy and alright, its support that is immoral, or illegal.

When you read docs you see mine is also First Contact Beta but its not well addressed at AmigaKit. OS 4.1.6 is stable, but when you look how much it uses X1000 board, is even alpha.
That is selling unfinished product without real idea when its main software side OS 4.2 will bring it out of beta. I dont mind waiting if they would fix just few basic things again.
@sacc Yes, I know you dislike my voice, but that is what it is, voice of how things in reality are, since I am bit disillusioned from my usual optimistic overtone.
Also, its all related to AmigaOS 4 hardware and software, and to some elements of "news" from Amiwest - we do discuss TW, onboard Ethernet and OS 4.2.

OS 4.2 is already paid, look at AmigaKit menu how much you have paid for AmigaOS and what is worth of X1000 OS 4 version.
There is no upgrade path in hardware sense, but to entirely replace the board, once Cyrus is avail as Nemo is now.
If I should bitch to the fullest, Nemo board could be offered to me, and I would save quite a lot of money on building the rest of system locally, as AmigaKit prices are not cheapest around. But that wasn`t option at the time, it was before AmiWest. In future, I will buy products only after AmiWest.Last edited by vox on 04-Nov-2013 at 07:00 AM. | For X-kernel, since it is such a a new reimplementation to get multiprocessing in there, is there any chance that things can and/or are being redesigned such that we can finally satisfy missing pieces of common thread APIs, such as pthreads fork and join?

The thing I noticed needed some improvement was the lighting on the speaker. We really needed a proper key light on his face, preferably not shining on the screen behind him. I'm sure we could have hung a lamp from that ornate ceiling thing without it being in the way of the projector.
As a lesser requirement, perhaps the camera should have pride of place in the centre aisle, not be relegated to the side.

Yes, very good points. I will bring it up at the amiwest review meeting.
I think the points are:
Better audio, Better lighting,
Roberto has expressed a wish for HD camera equipment??? (cost)
better control of both (like placement of cameras and mics with someone on the mixer all the time)
One person asked for transcript for low band folks.
Several folks have talked about donating money for staff (or being staff) I like the second one
KEEP suggesting Please!

| I'm impressed by the equipment you already bring to the show!
But I would contribute to a general fund to help further improve you already good (IMHO) coverage.
