@pavlor

those have already left the platform propably mostly

the people still active do mostly not care about that

the only ones obviously still dreaming of amiga competing with modern platforms were "NG" users mostly spending lots of money on it (new PPC based hardware) and finally deeply disappointed and leaving

The "classic" users also spend lots of money on original hardware but someone buying a 20 years old accellerator is certainly not expecting it to compete with a new i7 PC

and in this new FPGA based affordable multifunctional cards like Vampire perfectly fit

AB3D was really good, but I must admit I was never fan of AB3D2.

I wonder, when we will see Quake on Vampire...

quake needs an fpu or at least code modified to use fixed point

So will probarly be a while. FPU isnt first priority for Apollo-Team and ModernVintageG for example is working on 2 other FPS's (as seen from his youtube channel), plus neo-geo emulator.

the 68k core with new commands + speed + more ram + new SAGA / RTG will offer new software unseen on 68k (except perhaps on UAE). As I wrote it will not beat modern hardware and it is of course not as fast as PPC but who cares

Fun is more important

You know what is step three in disillusion of Amiga fanatic? After NG fallout and Classic re-embracement? Once one realizes his Classic is not capable of tasks he so liked to do on his late NG hardware, there are usually only two possible outcomes: Find some synthesis between Classic and NG or leave platform altogether. During years I wasted my time on Amiga forums, only few did choose first option...

I think the potential audience for Vampire is those users who never went to "NG". It is for those who want keep their 68k but still find new ways to improve their Amiga experience.

It is very likely lesser interest to PPC users but still, Amiga custom chips are still Amiga custom chips. If I had A1200 I could be interested to see how far I could get it (unlike 20 years ago I have money to make it so). I have A500 but I want to keep my A500 close to the original so Vampire is not an option.

I'm a very happy MorphOS user but I'm interested in the Apollo. We have not to choose between two worlds. Love Classic and NG Amiga world!

dont worry. none really needs the ng hardware for anything (there is no exclusive software for those), everybody has a pc for obvious reason. or his wife has one. im not even sure there is some die hard only ppc fraction left out there, be it even os4, and if so it is a question of few individuals who wouldnt made up their mind otherwise no matter what. they can safely be left alone.other than that there is a considerable number of people who resigned on ng and returned to amiga or of those who start to be interested again with the advent of vampire boards. the later dont necessarily need to trash whatever ng option they have chosen up till now.

People like you aren´t true Amiga fanatics. Your dreams about Amiga resurrection ended decade(s) ago, not theirs (ours).

End of jokes...

How many skilled developers returned from NG to Classic? One? No-one? "PPC fraction" - as you call it - absorbed most of remaining able Amiga coders. From software side, 68k Amiga looks dead in comparison (with notable exceptions like great NovaCoder).

who are these skilled developers in your book. care to name a few. from my own experience inn the last few weeks jason is back in town writing apollo/vampire drivers and contributing a lot to aros again. deadwood has helped me a lot to fix some arso68k issues and established few 68k bounties himself. georg suddenly has found interest in fixing aros rtg wrapper for real amigas. i have heard krashan say he intend to give 68k priority over morphos thanks to vampire. ell, sonds there is some notion in just a few weeks.

Its somewhat slow for booting, but thats trivial tweaks according to majsta. Work in progress etc.

may be as simple as rom waits for a boot device where it expect it to be. different values have been hardcoded in 3.0 and 3.1 up to half minute. not to mention a500, depending on kickstart, may not been well prepared for an pata bus anyway. im certain boot times wont be an issue here.

Aye.

He said it was a non-issue, but he was dead tired, so couldnt be bothered to fix it before going to bed.
Additionally he had dropped his A500 onto the floor earlier, so he was wondering if he had broken something;

@Seiya

I have seen Frontier tested with Vampire several months ago, via a youtube video.

As for this video, its not made by me, I just noticed the link pop up on apollo-team IRC channel, so I copy and pasted it here.
Im still about 4-6 weeks away from reciving my vampire, depending on Kippas overworked schedule.
