I can certainly say everything is on the table again.
But let's focus on the immediate future which means X5000 and A1222. I believe there was a promise to have AmigaOS 4.2 on the X1000 as well unless Hyperion has changed its mind. So we already have plenty to do. |
What about AmigaOS 4.2 for the Sam and A1-XE even though these machines won't be able to take full advantage of the upgrade?

If an ISA change contains PowerPC and 68K transparant emulation - which the MorphOS to AMD64 transition suppose to have - and E-Uae is running then at least the current software library available. Adding specific Vampire 68080 instructions to E-Uae could even increase that with a few titles. |

Yeah and maybe they'll be an Amiga equivalent of Wine too and a parallel porting effort to quantum computing CPUs ? Bottom line; there is no compelling software application base to warrant the outlay required to undertake an OSX style ISA change right now IMHO. Fund more software development first then ISA change may come later._________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

| @ISA change etc.
IMO, more important things are on the todo list.
Then, we need to see where the world is going.
Currently x64 offers best desktop possibilities, but... "Intel is in serious trouble. ARM is the Future." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfHG7bj-CEI
Also RISC-V need to be kept eye on. "Goodbye x86. The FUTURE is RISC-V" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67KW4t42SZk
+OpenSource Power Architecture developments might have tiny bit future as well... "An Open Source Motherboard?!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt8cu8IMLOM
At the moment ISA change or 64bit OS would affect current AOS4 users too much (they have 32bit CPUs). So, that is out of possibilities for now (IMHO).
Cleanly breaking 2GB RAM barrier, memory protection and multicore should be done first.
**********my earlier******************** "In order to retrain backwards compatibility some sort of hybrid solution is most likely."
Care must be taken to keep OS simple and technically beautiful.
my thoughts so far.... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nTBHHXseFZUemO9mcIb3qZ484PJXLhUh/view

I was a little disappointed that the Blackbird is not "open-source" in the sense that the CAD files would be published. That part is not. It seems more intended to be openly documented for software/firmware people, and the firmware is open-source and it is intended to run Linux... Schematics for owners, but is restricted and not "open-sourced" and cannot be shared, and no layout or eCAD tool files.Last edited by billt on 11-Nov-2019 at 02:13 PM.

I don't know what day zero was for joining amigaworld.net, but I just noticed your date joined is the same as tonyw, and two days before ssolie. I interpret your post a little differently, now. |

It's all a conspiracy against you. Been hearing any voices of late?

Trixie, I thought better of you. No, it's just that "entitled" seems like he took it personally and, as I explained before, my comments were not meant to be insulting.
You seem pretty reasonable - I'd ask that you not insult me. Clearly you are upset with me for some reason - care to explain?
My thought process was simply perhaps there may be an association - but regardless, this led to my realization that Derfs responded as if he were personally offended. I was careless in my final comments, but that is because I am extremely disappointed (a) with the last 25+ years, (b) the legal messes on top of this, (c) the 'firing' of Solie followed by - surprise! and (d) sorry to say, the quality of Mr Solie's answers here - they're just ... shallow. Maybe that's all that's possible right now, but I'd hoped for more / better.
At the same time, I'd like to be an optimist, so would you please not choose to be disparaging?
@Argo
Et tu, Brute?
... couldn't resist.
@Whomever
All of my comments in this forum were largely summaries of comments I've made before - if some of them seem terse, it is because I wanted to summarize, not belabour the points. If I sound opinionated, it is because I would (yet) like to see a positive outcome of all of this.
When I said, 'you guys', I meant everyone who has some control over the remnants of the Amiga.
So, that's it. I've explained myself to whom it may concern. Can we choose a better course, or shall we continue to insult and diminish each other? Last edited by Snorg on 12-Nov-2019 at 09:42 AM. Nobody has decided to kill off any platforms just yet. But there will come a point where it doesn't make sense any more.
