Unfortunately the FPGAs are not set up in a way that is usable for this kind of thing, and I'm not sure they are big enough either.

I am S. Vergauwen. I started a topic on MorphZone ( my nick is "oepabakkes" overthere) because I think it's important that a NG Amiga does emulate the OG Amiga as good as a PC can.
http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6106&forum=32&post_id=60432#60432

I was contacted there by Troels and so it happened that I donated ... Actually I donated twice, but the other donation was made with my wifes paypalaccount

I don't care the bounty to be OS4 orientated, as long as the sources can be used by the MorphOS community it's fine by me.

And whoever wants to do this bounty can also get a free powermac with a license from me and a few other MorphOS users I believe when it gets adapted to MorphOS. Look at it as an extra incentive.

Good. If understand, the Linux sources exist. Hope the bounty would bring programmers. What about advertising the bounty in Linux world, now when they get machine and OS?

Yes - A good idea.
If anyone has connections in the Linux world, then please do so, advertise the bounty in the Linux community/s.

I have a 1.8Ghz in my Powermac ... and I still want it. If EUAE wants to get anywhere near WINUAE performerance with all the bells and whistles it will get more demanding.

@meet.mrnrg

Someone please summarize this thread and the purpose of the bounty. I would like to donate to this bounty, but only IF it is for both OS4.x and MorphOS2.x. I am the proud owner of a "First Contact" X1000 computer system, but I also own and love using my MorphOS computer systems and want to run more of the Classic/Original Amiga software with perfect timing and correct speed, so if this JIT for EUAE on PPC will help accomplish that, and it is for both OS4.x and MorphOS2.x, I will gladly donate from my next retirement check.

Please confirm the above and also tell me who is working on it. Is it just one programmer? Wouldn't it be best to ask Toni Wilen to do this work, since he has done all of the recent work on WinUAE and done a brilliant job of updating it?

The bounty only covers an Amiga OS4.1 version but the source code will be made available once it is completed. Morph OS and AROS PPC versions will be dependant on developers who use those systems to port it.

The developer is Álmos Rajnai, also known here as Rachy. Rachy wrote the Amiga OS 68k JIT (Petunia).

and to my understanding Rachy is currently the most competent person to do the JIT (Toni Wilen is "only" a x86 specialist) when Trance creators do not seem that interested (they would be equally competent than Rachy).

@amigadave

Toni Wilen doesn't know PPC as good (or at all?) as Almos, Almos did Petunia for OS4 (68 Emulator and Jit ,the one you use daily on OS4 to run classic programs.)

The Purpose of the current bounty is to get JIT for E-Uae and E-UAE is on linux and MorphOS among others, the project is OpenSource and will be available as soon as there is a running version for "users".
Some dev stuff (sources etc) is allready online on Sourceforge.

So, as to if you should support it or not, well thats up to you in the end but one thing is for sure and that is that you will get an OS4.1 version first but i personally think that all other formats will follow suit as this is a "killer App".

btw.
a school/tutorial series for JIT writer wannabe's would be nice, IMHO!

If there is already, throw me a link.

Featuring...
It is always exciting to find out some magic details about the internal behavior of a complex system. I remember when I realized for the first time how the texts are stored in the Commodore Plus/4 games, back in the days. I was amazed how I can change the text that showed up on the bottom scroll of Tycoon Tex.

Let me offer some small excitement to you all: I just implemented a funny little feature in the E-UAE JIT engine. Now we can turn on dumping the compiled code to the console, together with the original Motorola 68k instruction that was compiled and the macroblocks that describe the intermediate translation form.....................

@Rob & Toaks,

Thanks for the explanations, or summary I asked for, specially the reason(s) why Toni Willen is not the right person for the task.

One quick question, why is Rachy not posting in this thread? Has he definitely agreed to take on the bounty for the work? I am glad to read that one of the people responsible for either Petunia, or Trance is involved in this project, as they have lots of experience that is invaluable.

I will donate when my next retirement check arrives, if not sooner.

This work should also benefit running AmiKit on G4 models running MacOSX, as I purchased the AmiKit credit card sized USB memory card with AmiKit installed on it, plus installers for Windows, MacOSX and Linux systems, and it runs much too slowly, even on a 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook, so I can't imagine trying to run E-UAE on any SAM system, since they are much slower than my G4 PowerBook.

Of course, AmiKit is a very high end Amiga experience, so it has lots of bells and whistles included that probably slow down the system, that a lower spec emulation would not suffer from, so I am sure adjustments can probably be made to speed up E-UAE on a 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook, but I am not expert enough with setting up any kind of UAE, so I will be very happy to see PPC JIT for E-UAE completed because I have seen how much difference the JIT makes on WinUAE.

I also hope that more bounties will be set up to move more of the other improvements that are already included within WinUAE, into E-UAE for all flavors of PPC operating systems (OS4.x, MorphOS, Linux PPC, and MacOSX on PPC Mac models). Work on E-UAE has been neglected for far too long, while Toni Willen and others have made great progress on WinUAE.
