@ Hondo:
"This is fantastic news.....can't understand how Hyperion dared to go down this route, while the lawsuit was above their heads. I also can't understand how they managed to get all of these things done, after all it's quite many things as it seems right now."

Nothing stopped them from developing OS 4.x for the Peg/uA1, or release the SAM version while they were still under the lawsuit, why does it surprise you so much?

Darn, this thread is running! LOL

@-Sam- I can understand that and that's a very good argument Sam. But I'm not sure I agree though, I might when we see the full specs of what they have cooking. But not at this point. =)

Although it has been well established that there is a PCI1x slot in line with a xorro slot I am still unclear what a xorro slot is, googling it just came up with "did you mean zorro slot" and nothing helpfull.

Please can someone shed some light on this mystery slot. Shame that ram slots aren't ddr3 though but it is looking more promising and I do hope it is a multi core 64 bit PPC, roll on more info.

@Rogue

I think Drako is comparing this old Amiga anouncement with this new motherboard :

http://www.amiga.com/news/?art=28

■Based on the P.A. Semi PWRficient PA6T-1682M dual core 64 bit CPUs clocked at 2GHz.
■RoHS compliant ATX form factor.
■Four (4) DDR2 DIMM slots.
■One (1) PCI Express x16 slot for high performance graphics cards.
■One (1) PCI Express x2 slot for high performance I/O cards.
■One (1) PCI Express x1 slot for standard I/O cards.
■One (1) PCI 32 bit slot for legacy cards.
■Six (6) USB 2.0 ports.
■Two (2) Gb Ethernet ports.
■Two (2) UART ports for serial connectivity and debug.
■One 8Mb Flash EEPROM containing U-Boot firmware.
■Four (4) SATA II ports based on the Silicon Image SiI3132 (x2) .

sorry for the "triple" post folks, dunno how come...
trying to delete them, but can't!

EDIT: Btw, the complete text of my first post does not appear, thus, while trying to see what was wrong, it went triple-posted... sorry once again!

@TrevorDick

Looking at your collection in your Avatar, you have enough material to compare. Now I only wonder... does one of those machines have the X?

@TrevorDick / Rogue / Electric Voodoo

Is it possible to get a hi-res photo of the board (with the obligatory blacked out bits if necessary)?

@tiffers

Amiga gave Apple a good scare at one point. It all depends on how far back their corporate memory goes.

Yes, Apple does consider MS a threat. They are competitors.

I recall reading something about PA-Semi only honoring existing military contracts for PA6T supply. I think the development has been pretty much shut down otherwise. Very little information is coming out. Perhaps the PA-Semi guys are working on the new processors for the "iTablet".

All this speculation is rather fun, though.

Cheers!

The CPU is probably not Titan, unless it comes built in various forms, because the pdf http://www.power.org/devcon/07/Session_Downloads/PADC07_Chang_AMCC_Titan_V0_2.pdf shows a black SMD chip, not similar to what appears to be the CPU on this mobo. I hope the company makes it easy for upgrades by the way, in means of a socketed chip..
Oh, and AEON means century in Greek..

The board itself looks quite nice. The more I read here I also favor the PWRfficient - indeed surprising, since everybody says/thinks it is virtually not available for 3rd party customers since Apple took over, but who knows... I never approached PA Semi and have not asked them for availability.
Question is: how will OS4 deal with several cores? Anyway, entertaining game and I am quite curious what finally will come out.
Ah - and my STB guess was wrong as confirmed by the Friedens. Also the board just doesn't look like anything else than a desktop board, thus, probably no netbook, too.

@Thread

I see that 6.html is already there, and that is where the hidden image was found. (check the source... it's in an element which is hidden by css)

To me it seems that the custom chip really is xena video i/o chip and because xorro is right next to it, I would bet that it is a little bit like Amiga's old video slot and that it could interface DVI out and video in etc...

And is there a SoC version of cell available somewhere?

And you'd need XDR-Memory for CELL BE to work, isn't it?
