This looks like it could be the top of a PA-Semi chip. It is close to the right colour:

UPDATE: Here is a closer look at the chip itself: wired.com
That package looks close to the corner you see on the m/b picture, including the little pcb around the edge of the chip.

That's the same board I was trying to link to earlier. I believe it was the dev board for the PA6T it code name is Electra._________________ A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back in my day, we didn't have water. If my guess about SB600 is correct, it supports HD audio. I don't know but I assume that 7.1 is possible in the HD Audio spec._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

The SB600 has:
AC Link interface
* Supports for both audio and modem Codecs * Compliant with AC-97 codec Rev. 2.3 * 6/8 channel support on audio codec * Multiple functions for audio and modem Codec operations * Bus master logic * Supports up to 3 codecs simultaneously * Supports SDIF output * Separate bus from the HD audio
HD Audio
* 4 independent output streams (DMA) * 4 independent input streams (DMA) * Up to 16 channels of audio output per stream * Supports up to 4 codecs * Up to 192kHz sample rate * Up to 32-bit per sample * Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) capability * 64-bit addressing capability for MSI * 64-bit addressing capability for DMA bus master * Unified Audio Architecture (UAA) compatible * HD Audio registers can be located anywhere in the 64-bit address space
So, you can get 7.1 without using the HD Audio. Last edited by DoodooHead on 04-Jan-2010 at 02:06 AM.

| Hmm... Potentially interesting hardware, but lets hope it's not going to be crippled by the biggest issue that's faced all Amiga h/w since the demise of CBM...
No decent software!
If it can't run equivalent (or better) apps like Firefox, OpenOffice and the Gimp, I can't really see the point in it...
I guess it could be attractive to the serious 'hobbyist' (ie: hardware geek!), but I like my boxes to be able to do productive and useful things...
Just my $0.02

| The January 4 2010 hint is up. Look at the title bar on the part with the puzzle piece. It says (look closer).
-edit- The comma is missing.
-edit2- Was the 42010 a chip number? Last edited by Samurai_Crow on 04-Jan-2010 at 02:23 AM. Last edited by Samurai_Crow on 04-Jan-2010 at 02:18 AM.

See Geennaam's post #143
There has also been speculation about 64-bit / greater than 4GB Memory support.
While I would say that any cpu worth putting on such a board would be 64-bit and would thus support large memory, it may be a stretch to assume this would apply to AmigaOS in the immediate future. Linux running on the same board might well work in 64-bit, but AmigaOS may well need some time to stretch its legs to those heights.
Of course it's necessary to have the hardware in order to devlop for it, so it makes sense to make a board with such capabilities.

| About the price of this board.
I think that we have to be very realistic about this point. We can't expect some ridiculously low price, that is common in the x86 world simply because the market isn't that big yet.
But whatever the price is, that should not undermine the effort here. We have to understand that we have been given a chance for a new beginning and first few steps will not be ideal. But the chance is here, and I'm looking forward to see what the future holds. _________________ You can crack anything with your head, even the head itself. -------------------------------- ...proud AOS user since 1993 -------------------------------- |

I do wonder if there is a bigger main market for this board, with the Amiga being a side market. Could effect the price if that was the case. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

I hope so..
BTW, I think the southbridge is the ATI SB600...the chip looks pretty much the same as what's shown on the tease.jpg photo!! :)

| @tomazkid Wild speculation, how did Hyperion get a chip from PA.Semi
I know it's not the same design ACK was to do but.... Could Amiga Inc actually have had a contract with P.A.Semi that was useful to Hyperion and part of the recent negotiations?

I understand economies of scale, but it'd be nice to NOT have to sell a kidney to purchase a board / system.
I think I will be getting one of these, but it will take quite some time to get the money together.
I know you haven't said it, but Amiga=expensive is a wrong attitude, which seems to be stuck in some people's minds.
I remember my cousin excitedly showing us the A1000 launch video, and discussing prices. He said for around AU $4000 it could do what a PC cosing $10000 could do. Mind blowing! It was like that for some time too. Then when PCs started doing the same or better things or less $$ I saw the writing on the wall.
I remember saying that C= didn't know how to market the Amiga properly back in 1992. They just weren't advertising the Amiga in Australia back then. I also thought how they kep tthe price of the A1200 and A4000 the same, year after year was another mistake. I guess there were lots of mistakes made.
But using the cost of Amigas in the later years as a benchmark for saying if it's Amiga is has to be expensive is just wrong.

After this much delay, not likely. I haven't heard from my PA Semi contact since the Apple borged them. Amiga Inc. can't be very special at this point either. Today, either you're a military contractorwith the US Dept. of Defense putting pressure on Apple, or your Amiga Inc. which is pretty much the same thing as me in my bedroom design center._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |
