opinion? thats baiting, my friend ... hence i've just reported you.

I think you are well out of order to report Opi over the comments he's made in the thread.

While I sometimes feel that his posts are questionable, I don't believe it is the case here. I quite liked the site myself, but he is certainly right that the workbench style windows are a novelty, while I think they are cool, I am not entirely sure they are appropriate for that particular site. The point he made about having to fiddle about resizing the windows is certainly a valid one .

@Rob

first (no offence) but is not up to you to decide what i have to report or not.

Secondly, there are other ways to express opinions (like others did) while opi' remarks were plain baiting (like other times by him).

No matter how hard I try (and no matter how hard I advocate AmigaOS 4.1), I can't like the "design" of the A-Eon website.

I'm not even clear how some people find this design appropriate from the standpoint of presentation or content. A clean, professional landing page with a footer providing contact information would have been more than enough for the time being.

Perhaps a few people will be motivated enough to provide suggestions on alternatives. A contest would even be fun.

Just what do you expect if you are using a stupid phone. The boxes look big enough on a proper monitor. Ditch the phone and use a proper computer - something like the X1000 for instance

As there's no V on the website spec list, I'll assume R700 without the V.

For what it's worth, I'd like to point out that I agree with you !

Beside that, there's to much of this going on... And complete threads are being destroyed like this.
People need to think twice about the way they post comments !

I think there might be room for tightening the rules a bit to bring a stop to all this #### (sorry, swearword...)

My 2 ects....

After my recent outbreak, I shouldn't probably say anything like that, but it's not your opinion that is the problem. Everybody is entitled to one, even you and me. The problem is the presentation of it. Want an example?

From post 24:
Quote:
There's this new upcoming technology called RSS/ATOM feeds. Some use it to distribute news.

You could have said "Why didn't you use RSS feed instead of a mailing list". You chose to do it in an offensive fashion, cleverly packing in a bit of insult. It's basically the same stuff that caused my recent not-so-nice posting, instead of making a genuine remark or question, you post it as a quip, or as belittling, or just as a plain offense.

It's always the same. Genuine questions seek an answer. Your questions seek flames.

It is here.
It contains information and is a place for new information to be posted.
It works for me!

Thanks A-EON

From A-EON website:

Quote:

You'll already have noticed that this website is a little different
from most you've seen. We all know that Amiga computing is something
different from the mainstream, and so is this site.

Simply Elegant.

None of that crappy clutter most 'professionally designed' sites have.

I like it.

Well, from left to right and top to bottom. The text used on that page is indeed sorted this way. The "gimmicks" (Media and additional info not all visitors may be interested in) are placed in the bottom right and labeled clear and understandable.

The most important part of the website is in the exact opposite of the place it should be. You can think up as many weird and wonderful reasons for it to be there as you like but the facts won't change.

Quote:
Nothing wrong here... maybe its time to think about the design "rules" you learned?

I do think about them quite often thank you.

Quote:
I mean, think about the fact that "design" is no matter of "rules", but a matter of taste in a specified period of time? Design itself is in a flow, it was in a flow and will ever be. If design is dependend on "rules" at some point, it becomes engineering. This is a quite different field, as engineering doesnt define good design -> taste of a period of time.

You are talking about the aesthetics of a design only. Engineering does very much define good design if you expect your design to fulfill a particular function or purpose.

@Rogue (and opi)

Exactly this is the problem. opi is the first one, who is calling other people arrogant or is asking for respect, but in most of his comments, he is the one, who sounds arrogant and not very respectful.

I would not say, that he is arrogant, because I don´t know him in persona, but here in Austria we say "Der Ton macht die Musik" (The tone makes the music?), which means, that it is not only important what you say, but also *how* you say it.

Yep. Perfect statement. But the problem is that you and others only *assume* something. You think you know what's the purpose: The usual one. But what the heck IS the usual one? If you ask 100 people you 'might' get 100 different answers. You might counter argue with something like "common sense". But maybe the purpose was explictly not to meet common sense. Whatever ad infinitum. I don't know. And you don't know. We can only assume. (Or ask?)

It's good that you're a programmer and not a content writer for your web business. I doubt a lot of customers would appreciate the free sarcasm and belittling.

And take it from me, yes, I'm a designer; thankfully not a 2D/webdesigner, but an industrial designer, there are indeed design rules. But there's also something as doing a job for a specific target group. This can change some rules. Also if you follow every rule in the book to the letter you have a high chance of creating something really boring. I'm not saying the AEON website is a masterpiece but it seems to appeal to a large part of the target audience in its current design. So, I guess job well done to AEON?

And about a designer being in constant LOL-mode because of gloating over other people's work, that's just really, really sad. Luckily most designers I meet can act professionally and offer constructive critism or offer suggestions to improve a design if they feel so.

Maybe you could give a link to really well designed site in your opinion?

Personally I thought the site was pretty funny, at first, because I'm an
ex-Amiga user. But the more I used it, I thought it was illdesigned and
felt a bit unprofessional.
I hope they do a complete redesign when the X1000 is released.

EDIT: But as others have pointed out, the target audience is Amigans and
this only being a teaser site rather than a fullblown company site makes
it ok in my book.
