PolyOrga just had some really nice updates and fixes.

It is quite easily the best organizer in AmigaLand and has features not found in other platforms.

PolyOrga 1.22 just dropped.

Great update.

This is certainly one of the trophy apps for MorphOS. If you have MorphOS, check it out it is really sweet. I use this almost every day and have a large database now.

You can run a business off of it, it is that capable.

Pick up the buttons I mention in the linked article, makes it look really nice.

v1.22 (01.10.23) Fix: Fixed the text transparency rendering for Tabs
Add: Time format in preference for local system that add secondes at time. Or force AM/PM
More time formats (with ou without 0 fill in hour and am/AM choice)
Fix: Refresh time format at startup
Fix: hit when double clock on empty diary list
Add: new event window when double click on an empty diary list (stay or remove the feature ? context menu do the same)
Change: Tabs color reference to true color mode. Allow alpha for border for allow full transparency for flat skin.
Change: Add transparency to tabs text too.
Change: Calendar switch to full color mode. Fix some render issue.
Fix: import old not true color may create bad color, use defaut instead.

1.22a dropped.

Great improvements since 1.18 that made key changes and functions.

This is an incredible program, most will only use a small portion of. The linking relationship, search, and overall design is just stellar. I use this daily for work and it just rocks! Having used many similar programs over the years on different platforms, I can really appreciate how well designed this program is.

I see the three apps of Wayfarer, Iris, and PolyOrganizer being real game changers and with all the support of vpdf, archive, and other OS supplied programs make it a productivity powerhouse... They are all being updated constantly along with 3.19 being coded. Great times!

@Matt3k

This is cool.
Please let me know when it has CalDav support as I’d like to sync with my Nextcloud instance.

@agami

Glad you like it!

I'm not sure CalDav support will be part of PolyOrga, I suggest you reach out to Fred (see his website in the original Morph.zone article above), perhaps toss him a few bucks to help it along. 1.23 Beta is moving along with nice little feature changes and added functionality. If I had to guess it might land in the next week or so. Strike while the fires hot!

CalDav will be integrated into Iris likely by the end of the year with calendar integration. So Iris will be similar to Outlook and similar with contacts/email/calendar. It will do calendar invites, etc.

PolyOrga was built for a deeper more business functionality where Iris is more for personal use items.

There a like 4 or 5 calendar apps being developed for MorphOS actively now, I wish PolyOrga was the OS default and the standard as it is very strong.

A VCF export program was just released for PolyOrga:

https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=9&topic_id=13646&post_id=157837&viewmode=flat&sortorder=1&showonepost=1

He is already working on a version that imports as well.

In other news I found a nasty bug that if you titles exceed a preset amount it will crash PolyOrga. This has already been fixed in the beta and I'm sure no one can type stories like I do to even find it. Other nice items have made their way into the beta like better searching and setting options.

This software is just so good to use, we will continue to see improvements over the next month and with 3.19 is released. Great times with MorphOS...

A big thank you for the very fast turn around on fixing the bug.

I hope you are running your data from an encrypted volume, then.

That piques my interest to be honest. MorphOS has had encrypted volumes as files on disk since 2.x, IIRC, compatible with TrueCrypt (but hopefully not based on it, given the documented vulnerabilities it has).

All this got me wondering. How secure is any sort of password entry and/or in-memory key storage on a machine that has no memory protection?

I mean intercepting the keyboard input and ripping data from memory is trivial on 3.x, for example.

That is much better a question to Frank, Jaca, or Piru. Best to post that on the zone..

@Matt3k

It's just a passing curiosity triggered by your statement. I would assume that there's some way to offload authentication to Quark to keep these things out of the ABox.

Do you use the encryption feature?

Would it be possible to get a Classic AmigaOS port of this? Many Amigans got
powerful PiStorm, Warp and Vampire accelerators that gives great RTG
screenmodes.

I wonder if its possible? Kickstart for it?

@AmiDelf2

You can reach out to Fred and gage his interest. I doubt he would be interested in being involved, as he is busy and has more plans for PolyOrga to fit in and "committed to"

But hey, enough zeros before a decimal place and you might get something going.

The reason I chose MorphOS at the end of the day as my daily driver is the software available and os maturity and performance. This might be an opportunity for other to give it a go. PolyOrga is only one software in my arsenal to get the work done... Not to mention Wayfarer, Iris, Pagestream, and all the native tools. Just a suggestion, for me it was totally worth it. Pretty sweet to have polyorga and turbo calc on the second display @1080P and Iris, Wayfarer on Ambient @>1080P on the main ambient display.

@Karlos

No I don't use Kryptos that comes with a base install. But to get the best technical answers, the zone is your place to good answers...

But you do entrust your business operations to an application running in the ABox with zero memory protection and have the data unencrypted on disk?

Security through obscurity is not really any security at all. Is it online?

@Karlos

If you are as obscure as running anything "Amiga" in 2024 you are pretty much secure from anything but targeted attacks.

Looking how often these work on systems that ought have been "secure" and what specialized (but not very sophisticated) knowledge would be needed to do such an attack he might be actually in less danger overall.

@Kronos

You say that, but all it would take is for someone to write a bit of malware hidden in a small utility, just to prove a point. I am not saying anyone would, but I've seen where the reliance on security through obscurity leads and equally had to deal with the consequences.

Just because you can entrust your business to an obscure package on an obscure platform with zero additional consideration to security, doesn't mean you should.

Consider wayfarer. It supports a lot of modern features, including JS. But I wonder how easy it is to break or get any form of data exfiltration or remote code execution going? It used to be the case on other platforms that breaking out of JS was easy - you would mess around with out of bounds array accesses in javascript, cracking open the heap or doing other nefarious things.

The eventual solution to that was a monstrous, yet clever hack. You asked the OS to basically reserve all the address space (a so-called gigacage) that was within reach of the array index position, knowing the elements were basically fixed (8 bytes, IIRC). These operating systems would only allocate pages when touched, and they'd always be in the address range owned by your process, so the worst you could do was attempt a memory resource exhaustion after. That still left plenty of other ways to abuse JS handling of other things (strings, regex, JSON, even DOM structures) to try and trigger illegal accesses. You've got 64-bit addressing, so what's a 32GB address reservation?

I am not here to throw shade on it and there might be perfectly good mitigation already in place, but I do wonder if - given the single address space, no protection model of AmigaOS and the ABox, how difficult it would be to basically spy on someone using JS crafted to read memory outside that of the process and how noticable it would be.
