| Great Interview, Thanks Alan. I'm looking forward to the MicroA1 even more, I can also see some PPC linux guys loving it.
I think if it compares favourably with the price of the Nemiah Epia M10000 board, it's going to do very well. Small form factors, quiet, low power consumption, cheap embedded technology is going to be a big growth area, bringing the idea of the computer appliance, plug in and you're away. |

| Very nice, I am now, more than ever, looking forward to a fix for the DMA problem with Linux. Hopefully it won't be that much longer, now that they have figured out what's causing it.
So, 400 preorders to make a single 1.3 GHz module a reality? Could it be done?

Inevitably there are a few who email us to say that they will only get an AmigaOne when hell freezes over. That's OK by me - everybody has the right to choose. But we really do have to focus on what is important now, so this last group may have some time to wait as high performance refrigeration projects are not a currently high priority item for us. | Tee Hee!

| Great interview. I'm interested in a dual CPU module, I just hope that Eyetech have had enough interest to get them built. |

| A good interview. MicroA1 (I really think MiniA1 would be a better name) sure seems to have the potential of being a "A1200-NG". Let's hope it achieves as big a sucess ... Sounds promising with the high suspected A1 sales once AOS4 is out (not that unexpected though). Interesting also to see that the MicroATX-board mentioned at AmiGBG 2003 and MicroA1 is NOT the same thing. I was confused on this issue. It is very good that the Triarchy has a spokesperson towards the future in the form of Eyetech and Alan Redhouse. Otherwise the future potential would look rather limited, given that AInc seems preoccupied with legal wranglings (and with DE too?), and Hyperion is preoccupied with simply working their ####s off ... Not too much time for promotional talk from that end. . SlimJim |

Agreed. I still wasn't sure that there would be a separate Micro ATX version until reading that last question. Now it's clear that it is planned. |

For now however we are working with industrial design house and Amiga enthusiasts Naya Design, to introduce a range of AmigaOne case 'mods' which are relatively modestly priced in themselves, but which will turn a decent off-the-shelf PC ATX or ITX case into a distinctively Amiga product. Eric_Z: When will we see a DDR-RAM cabable and AGP 3.0 compliant northbridge in use amongst your product line?
Alan: When it becomes cost effective to do so, taking into account chip capabilities, availability and pricing, and the market advantage, if any, that that such a redesign would give.
....
20) Eric_Z: I am wondering, what is the status of the Micro ATX A1 (not MicroA1)?
Alan: The Micro ATX board is scheduled to come out later next year, after sales of the MicroA1 and A1XE achieve sufficient volume. |

| Alan simply won't crack when it comes to not supplying hard numbers of A1:s sold . It can quite easily be deducted that it is bigger than 600 at least. Given the discussion on serial numbers we've had here on AW in the past, my guess we are well above 1000 XE:s distributed. Of course, noone knows for sure (and still, counting units in the mere thousands is still a negligeable volume). . SlimJim |

| AOS4 availability: beta planned to be available before Cristmas, great, I would be interested in BETATESTER Amiga system.
HW roadmap: it seems that Amiga will be stuck to ArtisiaS limitations for some time to come and IMHO it's perfectly OK, UNTILL AOS4 has become a modernized and mature/stable product. It would seem that y2005 for a DDR (or DDR2) capable PPC 970 (or 980) Amiga system is not too late, I would expect that AOS4 needs that time to become fully useable etc...
ArtisiaS "bug" or "feature": It's a shame that things are still "in the works" on that front. Well, when the beta of AOS4 is ready, everybody will see..... right?
sold A1 boards: It seems that Genesi has delivered over 1000 peg1+peg2 motherboards. So, according to Alan, Eyetech has sold a little bit more. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

Unless I have missed something, no PegII's have been delivered. Preorders are of course a different matter. |

| @KimmoK:
As long as they get the DMA thing fixed, I'm mostly happy with the Articia chipset. The one thing which concerns me is memory support. Since I bought the ram I have in my AmigaOne, back when SDRAM was at its cheapest, the prices for this kind of ram have been doubled. Additionally, the Articia is way to fussy when it comes to what ram it accepts. I sincerely hope that there will be a move to DDR ram in future AmigaOne models.

The odd thing about betas is that they are ... betas.
Though I'm certain that a lot of campers and trolls will take every opportunity to downplay 4.0 for whatever problems the .. beta .. has.

The Micro A1 is a Mini-ITX (17x17cm) form factor board based on the AmigaOne-XE specifications.
You will have to wait much longer for the Micro-ATX AmigaOne to arrive, which has a bigger form factor than the MicroA1, but which should have features such as DDR-Memory, AGPx4 and S-ATA support.
The Mini-ITX form factor is compatible with both Flex-ATX an Micro-ATX form factore cases, but not the other way around. You cannot house a Micro-ATX board into a Flex-ATX or Mini-ITX case. |

| MicroA1 is Mini-ITX format, which is 17cm x 17cm board.
http://www.mini-itx.com
Micro-ATX is a smaller than ATX form factor, usually with reduced number of slots, and such, but is larger than mini-ITX.

Nah. It's simpler than that. You don't want to give any part of your gameplan out. This would allow, (ahem) "the competition" to try and swerve their way in. And since this is a very cut-throat industry, there are no rules as such, just winners and losers. Look at the industrys' history as a whole and you'll see underhand, no good, dirty dealings everywhere. To try and steal an edge on someone is difficult enough, without providing them with a blueprint of your intentions. Just in case you think I'm referring to any kind of Amiga Vs Genesi competition, I'm not. Alan would be competing against a million +1 X86 solution providers, with large budgets, rather that something that is nothing more than a pesky irritant (like a mosquito that needs squashing).
