The longer handle looks better IMHO.

...and I'd probably go for the metal look (although the wood looks a little more personal).

Number 1 for me.

1! The metal one!

Or a standard drawer like 3.9 but updated

I'll go for no. 3. I feel the metal ones are too plain looking.

I'd have to say number 5.

The grey ones do not stand out enough to me &, personally, I'm not into the wood look on a computer. Although I really DO like the idea of a subtly textures design.

If I was to make a suggestion I'd say I like the current isometric blue ones. The fact that they are a little taller too helps for me.

The flatter design worked better when a standard Workbench resolution used 2:1 pixels (640*256). With resolutions averaging 800*600 or 1024*768 the images need to be closer to a square(ish).

Thanks for putting up with us

FuZion.

Cool to let us in on this!

The new shape is good (I like the thought of going back to the shape of the drawers pre-New/Glowicons). But each drawer looks way to simplistic. The wooden ones have a little more "structure", which is good -- but wood looks cheap. On the other hand, the metallic ones are better colour-wise, but way too featureless. The long handles are better than the round ones though; gives a more symmetric and professional look.

As I have mentioned earlier, I feel the icons of the prerelease and these new ones as well, lack quite a bit in contrast. They tend to "fade" into a bright background which makes a "weak" impression (for lack of a better term). They could do well wih a black edge to better bring the icons "out from the screen".

I'm not dissing your work, here by the way, Mason. Your work is always looking good. And I like the shape of these new drawers! But I hope my critique do spawn some further design modifications.

I vote for 5) or a modified and polished mix of 1) and 3).

The all look fantastic. Has anyone ever thought of digitising actual pictures and using that as an ICON.

I like the current style file cabinet a lot, but of those four I'd select the first one.

Some time ago someone has posted a modified version of your drawers for the prerelease, I prefer that one.

How about a little truth in advertising?

...in all seriousness, we're using Workbenches. I'd prefer rough-around-the-edges to polished-n-pretty. The wood look, #3, looks best to me, but how about a "distressed wood" look? Something that says "this is a workshop" rather than "this is a desktop".

The long handles are the best.

But ... I don't like any of them in particular. I don't know why ... the metal is too plain, the wood isn't very good. I think the metal with some inner contrast might work. What are the "open drawer" icons like?

Maybe have the options for different coloured metal drawers! Dark Green, Red, White, Blue and so on, like in real life. I think that the problem is that it is so /bland/ ...

they all suck, and you'll be fooling youself if u think someone outside the community won't think so.
no.3 is the least bad, but seriously... take a leaf out of powericons' book. those look like good icons.

the stern hand of outside criticism slaps the amiga community round the face once again...

I'm throwing my hat in for "I don't like them" and "the third sucks least" group. What I would like to see is some sort of picture drawer like the MagicWB icons provided done in the way of PowerIcons (PNG 24bit with 8bit alpha channels) to handle shadows, outlines, and other transparencies. Icons that stand out without looking out of place are very hard to create and I'll give you kudos for doing everything you've done so far, but the latest OS needs a way to "fit in" per say. At the same time, the icons need the option to "dumb down" and still look slick for the old-hat Amiga users.

My 2 coins.
