Announcement   Announcement : 16 Days left to Win an Amy'05 board - Read on.
posted by Troika on 25-Oct-2005 18:08:43 (6630 reads)
The “Give Amy her Face”..Contest ends on Nov.12, 2005.

Rules are very open: We are looking for one standard design that will clearly identify the Amy series of computers. Amy needs a face plate for both a desktop (horizontal) and tower case (vertical). All entries must be submitted in jpeg format and will be judged by Troika. Enter as often as your wish. That’s it that easy!

You don't have to be a graphics wiz to enter, and today as an added incentive we are releasing our Amy contest kit. The kit contains screen grabs taken from different cases, along with the Troika logo, and the Amy’05 *logo. The kit can be downloaded at:
Contest files

Now we have made the process easier... Get designing !!!
Send all entries to: newface4amy@troikang.com along with a working return email address with your entry.

I like the idea of this contest, and really hope something unique comes out of it.

On the other hand, I think the Amiga Fantasy case would be a nice choice too. May be you guys could work more closely to offer Amy'05 in the AmigaFantasy case too. That'd be EXTRA cool! (I wouldn't miss on buying that!)

I think it would be better if they get a license from Amiga to write Amiga on the case.
I would love a new Amigacase not a troika case.
Only with an Amiga logo we can say this is a real Amiga.

@Troika

I'm pleased that my idea of using the X-QPack as case is considered as a possible case

Great(sarcasm)

You've got all these excellent cases under consideration.
Why do you need us again?

How has presenting us with these options helped matters? If anything it has just made it all the more intimidating to enter the comp.

If you're just going to buy one or two of these ready built cases then our hands are tied anyway.

What I want to know is just what you guys are willing to build. Are you actually going to produce a new facia or just paste your logos on an existing one?

You want a face design, but if you're just going to buy these cases then why bother.

Now, I've already submitted stuff that looks very similar to a lot of these cases but not necessarily much better. So why bother?

Please, Please do not place Amy05 or Troika logos to prominently on the case.
All we want is Amiga written on the case perhaps with a model number.
Otherwise it might as well have Genesi pasted on it.
Besides the '05' dates the case.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
We have no hotdogs!!! Let's design the cut in the buns.

@all

as I do understand it: TROIKA wants us to design a new front plate (you know these 5"1/4 plastic front plates you throw away when upgrading your PC case with a CDROM drive) with a NEW layout NOT NEW design of the Troika LOGO and Amy'05 Logo.

This way Troika just needs to produce stickers which only costs some cents ($, ¤) for any case! I really don't think they want a newly designed case from ground up! That's too expensive for a very small Amiga market.

The TROIKA Logo really needs some color and needs to be more modern.

Athe Amy'05 logo is much more like the original AMIGA font, but needs color too.

To have a ressemblance to classic and new Amigas we need either the Amiga Boing checkered design or the Amiga Hook rainbow colors!

Then why did Troika say
Quote:

Why specify a desktop and tower case if you're just doing the 5 1/4 inch front plate?
No, I'm pretty sure they mean the whole front of the case.

The silly part is that their little contest files have pretty good faces. Sure they aren't Amiga-ish. Just what are they expecting us to do with those pictures? Especially the ones that are diagonal. How do you expect us to draw on that?

Why can't they tell us which cases they've chosen for size considerations and then we can superimpose designs on top.

Some of those cases are way too small for the troika board anyway. How about getting rid of them?

And obviously they aren't expecting us to redesign their logos. ALTHOUGH THEY NEED IT!!! And a name change too. Arrgh!!

Where's the Amiga logo going to go?

This whole thing is getting rather frustrating. Humph!!
I mean all they need to give us is two blank squares with dimensions.......not convolute the issue with all these pictures now.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
We have no hotdogs!!! Is the Use By date '05'?

Only a bunch of computer geeks would have this much trouble with an artistic contest with as few boundaries as possible.

Yup!

The kit is a good idea but I only think it's meant to give an idea of the sizes and shapes of existing cases.

I entered as well but I did the exact opposite of what people are suggesting, I made the Amy'05 logo big and bold.

If designing the front of a boring computer case is your idea of art then I suggest you are a geek.

Hi everyone,

I have put together a few quick sketches, nothing special, but I hope we get at least the Boing Logo! :)

I am also working on some other variants...

I agree that we should have a new, original front for a mini itx/ micro atx case that isn't already on the market otherwise what's the point?

Amiga Logo, Boing or tick is a must I believe...

Anyway, I have hacked my webpage to host the pictures and if I find the time I will work on some more proposals.

@The Daddy

Very nice.

Hmm, I guess give the "open source" trend of entries I'll join in, here's my entry:

It's pretty basic as I just stuck with a front panel, the lines and lettering are meant to be cut into the plastic so it resembles one of the classic machines (i.e. the letters wouldn't be black).

There were a few others, but they're just the same thing on other cases.

The logo while black can be given colour - I spoke with the guy who made it. There are colour varients. Just by being a flat colour it can be deployed in more ways. His brief was to design something a little retro looking with the old amiga style in mind - so I guess you could add rainbow colours to the logo or something? I'm working on my entry hehe

I'll make a simple suggestion....
I want an amiga case that looks like the amigaworld.net boing log
that mounts on the wall (minus banner part of course) with wireless everything.

.

Not that it will every happen
