| I don't wish to be overly negative, but good as gnash is, proabaly the best out there, it doesn't work with much at all. The only thing you'll get is better adverts!
I say this as a regular linux Gnash useron my amigaone in debian ppc mode.
If I want, video, or music, youtube / vimeo / lastfm etc I have to use my linux x86 box, with the adaobe flash player I wish it were otherwise. (youtube does work after afashion but very slowly)
I'm not sure that gnash would be that hard to port though, and better to have it than nothing. _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad

| I don't really like bountys if they never gonna do the products. Like the FF for Amiga.
But i'll pay for this, if it ever will see the light. |

| Honestly why don't we get the Amizilla funds back in business and perhaps help out here.....it's utterly ridiculous seeing them wait around somewhere for years......a waste of a nice money pool, which could be used here and now for smaller bountys. OWB seems to be the browser coming on strong for our platform, can't we redirect the money there? - and get flash, javascript, etc. as quick as possible.

I agree. It does seem crazy that all that money is sitting there when it could be doing a lot of good bringing other much needed stuff to the Amiga platform. _________________ "We live, we die, we laugh, we cry"

| What I find interesting is the fact someone has the job done (or near complete) before the bounty is setup but let the bounty (which is pre-assigned to him) appear anyway... I find it questionnable. _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job !

I don't run the bounty website, but I do help review the bounty ideas. It's taken longer to get things such as terms & conditions, etc., set up due to other things getting in the way. It looks like Afxgroup decided to start working before the bounty was set up properly and assigned to him. It's important to remember that someone else suggested that bounty, and it had been in the list of suggestions for a while.
Personally, I'm happy that he didn't wait. And yes, his request to be assigned the bounty predates the date on that screenshot that ssolie linked to. This is a bounty worth supporting.
It is unfortunate that things took so long to get set up, but it was important that the terms & conditions spell out exactly what happens to people's donations. Normally a bounty would be opened first, but if a developer is interested in taking on a suggested bounty before it's officially opened, then I think that it's worth assigning it to them once it's opened.

| Thanks Hans.
I just wrote abalaban a PM explaining how it's my fault the bounty took so long to get up and running.
@everyone I told afxgroup he would be assigned to the bounty quite some time ago. Although I was slow in setting up the bounty afxgroup seems not to have wasted the time which is a good thing. _________________

| Personally I would like that the port comes out both in binary and source code and under a license that allows to be ported with the required modifications on the other Amiga OSes; it is really time to start to work together and not hamper any other faction progress if the goal is to increase users and spread Amiga OSes usage, unlike in example stuff like Mini GL with an ad-hoc pseudo-open license to avoid to be spread on the other incarnations; sometimes i feel a strong breath of village mindset here when i see things like that...

Given that Gnash is GPL, of course the Gnash port will also be under the same license. This has nothing to do with MiniGL, so no need to confuse things.
BTW, just because someone open sources something doesn't mean that they have to do so with a GPL type license. The developer who open sources something gets to dictate the terms of the license. Be thankful that they decided to open source MiniGL at all; they didn't have to.

Is it possible to donate by use of iBrowse2.4 and payPal?
I put an amount in the EUR box and my payPal account and password into the payPal area. However, clicking on [Login] did nothing but remove my entries.
Several other variations also came to nothing.

| Maybe i put the wrong example, but IMHO would be nice that,at least now that all amiga-like platforms are still struggling to climb the huge gap to reach a decent level of new technologies supporting after a long dark age, good efforts like this one could be shared among the communities; that is something that i thought possible in example for AROS that, being the open source brother, allows other members to port part of its code and applications with a far lesser work than in example to port from linux, and allowing to have a broader public for applications.
Is just that the mini-gl example is for me a blatant example of small village mindset; if not clear let me tell a story of what I mean: There are three people in a small village and one owns one cow, one owns one sheep and the last one have one fruit tree in a patch of grass that all three use but, for personal envy the person who own the cow does not let the person that has the sheep share the grass; no matter that the person with the sheep might give some wool, no, is a principle, he went there first and therefore want all the grass. The person that has the fruit tree instead does not mind and give the leftover fruits to both; the person with the sheep gives him back a wool tree and a bit of sheep milk once in a while, but the person with the cow does not return anything, not even a thanks: he even say that the fruit tree might need to be put down because is taking room for the grass... and this despite the fact that all three might simply exchange their own products, share the patch and also using the fruits of the tree and the manure of both make it even prosper, but for narrow-mindness all of the three persons live miserably reminds you something?

The bounties are for Amiga OS 4.x, so the one task is to port to that platform. Given that it's an open-source project, if someone else wants to then take that code as a basis for a port to another system, great; if not, who cares. As far as the bounty is concerned, it's irrelevant.
In your village mentality example, the idea is that each trades some of what they have for some of what someone else has. Now what will Amiga OS (4.x, or 3.x, because the MiniGL license would permit a back-port to an older Amiga OS) users/devs gain by changing the license? Nothing really, the benefit is all for those who wish to use it as a shortcut to 3D support on their OS (that would be just AROS, since MorphOS has its own OpenGL lib). The village mentality example breaks down as a metaphor here because there is nothing mutually beneficial about it; it would be a one-way street.
If the developers for the various Amiga OS like systems were to collaborate on developing new stuff that all the platforms need, or do a tech swap of sorts; then that would be mutually beneficial. Something like a common MESA porting effort would fall under this category.
Hans
P.S. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with the MiniGL license. However, I respect the decision of the licensors; it's their source-code, and their work. _________________ Join the Kea Campus - upgrade your skills; support my work; enjoy the Amiga corner. https://keasigmadelta.com/ - see more of my work

I never donated to the amizilla bounty but just thinks its foolish to have a GIANT bounty hanging around while it could do so much more. I think it's about time DiscreetFX perhaps reconsidered this whole thing, and made a public statement where people can draw back their funds to other projects.
