Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : The Secret of Middle City. Official demo available
   posted by g0blin on 24-Feb-2015 14:47:30 (7248 reads)
Good afternoon, my fellow Amigans,

I'm proud to announce that "The Secret of Middle City" official demo in now available for direct download from our website.

You will find all relevant information inside the download section of GDG Entertainment.

At present the demo runs on AmigaOS v4.1.x, MorphOS and MacOS X.

Windows version (tested on systems ranging from XP to 8.1) is foreseen in the next few days.

In addition, thanks to the brand new Hollywood 6 Epiphany and its stand-alone Linux environment, a Linux compliant version of TSMC could come sooner than I expected.

Enjoy the demo.

Download links are also available on Stefano Buonocore website, the game creator and designer.

Best regards

Gianluca Girelli

Interesting picture there in your site where there is this actual storyboard or something spread on table.

@olaf

both will happen most likely, the problem was time and for the classic one was that it will require a lot of horsepower and memory. anyways i have done what i can (for now) to get release all versions possible.

I have posted a article about the game and its future on my blog here:

@OlafS25

AROS is surely planned. I just can't work on everything at the same time.

As far as 68K, we are working on sounds but I guess the graphics risks to be downscaled to much to have a proper look. We'll see how it goes, but I need time. Just consider that I'm not a full time coder and I do something totally different for a living.

As far as commercial goes, we are striving with ACube to get a boxed edition for Amiga/Amiga-like versions, while Win/Mac etc will be on digital delivery only.

@Bugala

a month? call me Superman!

That is actually the game map layout. The nice thing about this project was "playing" with my 10 years old son who actually helped me in the making of it: cut, paste, highlight ... a true designer and betatester from very young age...

I'd have some suggestion for you in order to improve it, but before I want to play it more

Fun game, still a bit glitchy though, some of the dialogue boxes are in different font/style, dialogue skip button doesn't seem to work and I've had it lock up on me, but it definitely has potential!

Screengrabs:

@danwood

Hello danwood,

those fonts are different for 2 kind of reasons:

1) the one depicted in the first picture is what the designer elected to use for the "random" dialogs, where you can select the questions in your preferred order. We need a small font for the sake of space

2) the second one is what the designer calls "CPU dialogs": they are non-interactive dialogs that pops up only in certain part of the story to underline a particular moment.

I realize that they may appear to you a little bit lacking of consistence at the moment, but it is probably because the demo covers only a fraction of the story. Everything should become much clearer when playing the full game.

As for "skip dialogs", it does not work if selected after a dialog is already on. For the time being it needs to be activated before starting a dialog. As a matter of fact this feature was originally meant for testers only, to avoid playing the same dialog over and over during testing session. It turned out we liked it and decided to keep it. I'll see if it's the case to fix it later on.

Game is still glitching a bit.... we'll fix that too, I hope .....

As for the system lock up, I have to investigate. Never happened to me while testing. But since Hollywood 6 is out now and with tons of new features (included new drivers) it is likely that the problem is already fixed.

Thanks for trying the demo, though. It is appreciated.

Best regards
Gianluca

by the way ... nice backdrop you have!
