Have you tried with dma (+ kb per request) yet? |
Not yet. I'm using the 2.4.22 kernel with Mai's dma patch but I haven't set the maxtransfer yet. I will soon switch to 2.6.8 and do some testing then though. If it means anything, I did an apt-get dist-upgrade and had no corrupt files.

@EntilZha & Rogue
Is this the right place for bug reports? As my AmigaOne fails the second IDE scan. On device 2 (a Liteon DVD-RW) I get the error:
ATAPI ERROR (no DRQ)
|
This error occured already in UBoot 1.0.0. I think it depends on the IDE device, if the error happens or not. I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM and a Liteon CDRW burner connected to the secondary IDE port. First the error didn't occur, but then I updated the Toshiba drive's firmware and always got this error, when I executed a "ide reset" command in the UBoot console. UBoot 1.x.x also sometimes waits for an endless time when scanning for the drives.

| Arrgh.. Had to use my virus infected pc (third time since I got the pre-release) in order to burn the CD (makecd wouldnt work with my burner and Fryingpan crashed).
Anyway the update went smooth just wrote "diskboot 500000 2:0" and the cd began spinning (no boot command needed??)
Now wheres my new IDE card (hope it will be here tomorrow)... and more importantly the update _________________

Hmm, got to be worth a try. My Liteon's on FS02, the latest is FS0K.
Does anybody know if (and how) I can upgrade the firmware of it using OS4 or Linux PPC? Otherwise I have to disconnect it and drag it to a Windows PC _________________ "Miracles we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer" - AJS on Hyperion Avatar is Tabitha by Eric W Schwartz

You could DD the updater.image to an empty partition and boot it from there. As for floppies or cd's I don't see the problem. I updated mine by burning the iso to a cdrw with K3b on my A1. _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff!

Wait!
It got worser, when I updated the firmware! The Toshiba drive always had slight problems (slow reading, disc detection, and so on) and I though a firmware update would resolve this problems. Although the drive works a little bit better now (Toshiba still has a speed limit set in the firmware), UBoot seems to have a problem with the drive or the other way around.
Regarding firmware: Almost all manufacturer only provide Windows tools for a firmware update. I connected the drive to a PC and updated the firmware under Windoze (with administrator rights) Last edited by Geri on 07-Oct-2004 at 03:37 PM.

The firmware of the dvd? I missed that then
That can be a bit tricky, the easy way is propably to do it with Windows.... _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff!

Yes, it does work with a CD in the drive. In fact, I've now taken to leaving a blank CD-R in the drive to workaround the problem until I can switch the second ide reset off.
I did some further investigation. It seems that as master, this drive always works on the first ide reset, and always gives No DRQ on the second. As slave, it always gives No DRQ on the first ide reset. Curiously, it upsets the slave drive on the same channel, which is sometimes picked up as a CD-ROM and sometimes as a hard disk. The slave drive when set as master identifies itself correctly in all cases. Leaving a blank CD-R in the (master) drive appears to have also fixed this issue.
I don't know whether any of this information will help fix the underlying cause.
Thanks to everybody who suggested things to try, and to Hyperion for the U-Boot update. Hopefully I'll have a little more luck with the OS4 update. I'll hold fire on the DVD firmware upgrade for now, I'd rather not risk making things worse (especially as it is impossible to downgrade the firmware on these drives)

Quick question about the Sil0680 cards this supports. In looking around to buy one of these, I found out that there apparently is at least one revision of the 0680 chipset out there. At SIIG's website I found one card that I'm interested in but they list it as having two different Sil0680 chipsets and as a result two different BIOS versions that can only be used for the appropriate chipset. They list Sil0680 and Sil0680a. |
The answer is both should work. _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

Great! I'll mention that in the forum thread I've also posted in. And I don't have to worry about which one is there, hopefully. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site.

Use diskboot, not boota to launch the updater.
I personally would suggest writing it to a floppy disk (in Linux) via the "dd" command, just use "fdcboot" to flash it... that's IMHO the easiest way... if you have a floppy, that is...
|
That's what I've found to be easiest! "dd if=updater.image of=/dev/fd0" ( in my case ) . . . then, interrupting the boot and entering at prompt: "fdcboot ; bootm"
After the image was read-in from the floppy- the A1 booted up into OS4.0 (Pre). Is it my imagination or do Partitions and Drawers open up with more speed than before? _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM !
