@_steve_

About the sound card; there are PCI-e sound cards soon to be available. Like these:

Dreaming of this is NICE! However, caution is advised as well. Too many broken hearts litter the Amiga road to where we are today.

If this doesn't turn out well, I hate to think of the fall out. Lord...

NOBODY REALIZED THEY DIDN´T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE GRAPHICS CARD???

@ACKCONTRLS

Please Adam, don´t answer just to a tiny part of the questions. You was going to announce a complete system, so you cannot just talk about a board from SEMI.
THAT'S NOT A COMPLETE SYSTEM. In fact, it is very far from it.

What can you tell us about the graphic card?
What about the included audio system?
How much memory?
How many GB on the HD?

Please answer at least those very basic questions.

Note that I am not even asking you about very important elements as:

- Drivers
- The OS that will run on the system
- the expected availabilty
- Any program for developers or
- The distribution system

Because I suppose you still dont have a clue about that. But if you want to be serious this time, you should have answers for the hardware questions, at least.

Cheers!

To me a board with everything built in is more likely to be viable ahead of this power system. Still the question remains who is Amiga hiring to code?

Maybe the Friedens? They are just contractors, right. They should be able to contract the job. Don't forget that Bill M claimed Amiga were trying to negotiate the OS5 kernel from the Twins. If they don't work for Hyperion, then this could possibly be worked out.

The basic answers is that these things vary on price almost every week, so what´s the point to put these specs for a system that will be launched as soon as three months ore more.I suppose that he will put the maximun it can to reach the price range of 1500.

I haven't read all 100+ post yet, but has any pointed out that this price includes the monitor too?

I do find it odd that we have the specs on Amiga.org, but not on the corporate site yet. Well, I'll give them a couple more days there until we get the next conspiracy theory worked up.

Pricing and availability for commodity items varies too greatly to announce the specific part numbers and exact memory or hard drive capacity. Firmer details will be released as they are known.

@ackcontrols

Hi,

You must have missed my earlier post.

Does this include OS4 or OS5?

Thanks,

I noticed that the low end board has a release date of "this summer", but the high end one does not. Adam, can you clarify if the release date for the high end board is also going to be sometime this summer, sometime this year, or not yet determined?

I swear, this is the last chance I'll give Amiga Inc to deliver on a promise as you can only be taken for a fool so long. I find it hard to believe we wont be disappointed this time as well.

Oh well, assuming this if for real....

Wouldn't some of the specs such as RAM and HD really be provided by the dealers on a made to order basis? You might not want 4 gig of ram and a 500Gig HD at first or you might not want only 1Gig of RAM and a 100Gig HD. There's obviously going to be several purchase options. Will there be something like an Apple store?

Also, there's no point talking graphics until OS4 is in hand, and drivers are working on the machine. You might want to secure a graphics card at the last possible moment for price, performance and supply considerations. Anyway, there's no way this thing is going to be released any time soon (if at all) so it's better to wait until the last moment to talk about these features.

About the cases.....What colour are they? Will the low end case be a keyboard wedge like the A500/A1200? What are the models going to be called?

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.

@ACKCONTRLS

Thanks for answering. Please don´t hesitate to inform us about any new detail you have more or less secured as soon you can. You know you can still keep appart from the consequent speculations.

I wish you very good luck in this project. If it materializes, and you put it in a place where I can buy it, I will buy it for sure, and you can bet also that I will use it as a showcase for many people.

Cheers!

Whilst I would dearly love this announcement to come to fruition, it's simply not worth getting your hopes up over until something more concrete arrives; and I don't mean an updated version of this specification.

As it stands this spec is woefully short of details. Anyone can put a spec together like this and a few costings on the back of an envelope and it sounds like a feasible project. I don't know how ACK comes up with a figure of $1498 without knowing all the details, graphics card, hard drive, case design, let alone having ordered enough of them for a production run. If he had said "There's a target price of $1500" then that would be another matter. Didn't he say that the CPU is being sampled ? So there's no firm date on availability or lead times...

However, we all know that board design (which is all this is at the moment) and debugging a board are two very different things. Think back to all those April-fix and DMA access flame wars and other problems with Uboot etc.

As far as we know, ACK is one man. That's a hell of a lot of work for one man, debugging the board, implementing fixes, getting the case designed, built, assembled, negotiating purchase of memory components etc etc. Even the original Amiga team like Dave Haynie didn't do all of these things themselves, they had a whole company.

I for one will remain very sceptical about the chances of this new machine being available any time in the next 2 years. As we were saying 5 years ago.... we'll believe it when we see it.

PCI express is the way forward and I'm sure that this time next year PCI express sound cards will be commonplace.

Typical studio audio hardware is external and USB based, so we're ok there. But still basic internal sound is pretty essential these days.
