| @ EntilZha:
One question:
Since Petunia has been updated, has the list of things that should be blacklisted changed? Specifically, it was recommended before to blacklist IBrowse's javascript; is that still necessary?
Thanks,

The bug related to Javascript.library is fixed for a long time now. But if I were you I would rather use the PPC native Javascript.library anyway.
Regarding the blacklisted programs: what was on the blacklist in the Final by default that is not changed and probably won't change in the future either. What you added to the blacklist: worth a try to check out without blacklisting.
The included mathieeedoubtrans.library is fixing a bug related to ASin() function, which makes for example Art Effect circrle drawing working again. (I am sure there are other programs out there which is fixed by this release.) _________________ Álmos Rajnai

| Thank you for this unexpected update, this gives us (at least to me) a bit more confidence again in the future of our beloved OS
That said, could I ask a little question, to which I think I have the answer : to produce .so files do we need updated SDK ? I have a project waiting on my HD that could really benefit from this new feature...
Keep the good work OS4 Team. _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job !

At last, USB is working properly again. As you said, I dismount my KVM, put back the new hid & massstorage.usbfd back in place. My USB mouse directly plugde to the rear of the A1 work again. So is my USB key.
USB hardware really suxx on this MB. I feel back in 2003 when USB keys where only usable under Linux if plugded on a self powered hub.
In fact I already incountered the "power" problem of USB : with the same KVM, used with 2 computers (µA1 & old PC) with USB1.0 => mouse dies after a short time, but unplugded & replugded, it was there in a second. Now I use the KVM with the µA1 and a brand new MacBook (USB2.0) => every thing work fine.
Writing this I just remember that I've installed the Update without the Mac started :P
You made a great job, all is working :) Thanks |

If you haven't space for the shared pbjects, by all means leave them out at this stage. There is nothing in the OS that requires them (yet). |
Actually, there is. Python.

For the time being, you can go without it, but future OS updates might require python. Besides, there will be programs that make use of the SOBJS feature. I would recommend repatitioning your harddrive. If you start to move directories around, future updates will surely fail unless you do some manual work to install them. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Why is your system partition so full? Mine is only 130 MB. Suggestion: move all your third party programs to another partition; that allows you to replace or update the system partition at any time without affecting your custom installation. |
I installed everything except the SObjs directory and Python stuff. It worked fine last night but when I turned on my computer this morning I got a Sashimi window full of USB error output and my mouse didn't work. I never had any USB problems before this so I'm hoping this doesn't occur on a regular basis. I suppose I can revert to the old USB files if it does. That's what I had to do with the OS4 Final serial.device. I'm a dialup user and it didn't work properly with YAM so I had to revert to the OS4pre4 serial.device.
I created my WorkBench partition when I first got my µA1 and thought that a partition twice the size of my A4000 WorkBench partition would be more than I would ever need. I already have all 3rd party files on another partition. I just need to create a boot partition on my removeable hard disk and back up my system before repartitioning my main drive. I'll find the time to do that in the next couple of days and then I will hopefully have enough room on my current System partition.
It turns out I was wrong about the SObjs assignment thing. There is no assignment for it in the startup-sequence but there is an SOBJS: listed by the assign command. Apparently it's an internal assignment like the LOCALE: directory. I just hope that programs that use these shared objects look for them in SOBJS: instead of OS4:SObjs because I'll be reassigning it to another partition. I haven't had very good luck with reassigning things like LOCALE: especially when it comes to the installer. The installer always seems to look for directories on my OS4: partition even if I've assigned them elsewhere.
Because of some of the lousy installation scripts I've encountered at Aminet, I used to run a script to copy my System partition to ram:, assign all system directories to the ones in ram: and then run the installation script. I could then run another script to see what was replaced by the install script so I would know what files to copy from backup if the installer overwrote newer system files. That worked on my A4000 but not with OS4: Even though I've reassigned system directories elsewhere, the Installer tries to put files in some of my OS4: directories. _________________ X1000 with 2GB memory & OS4.1FE
