| I don't know why this turned into an XP bashing session... we were discussing appearances, not speed. But now we have brought it up, I will point out that I am running XP on a 900mhz duron and it runs quite smoothly. Those who are having trouble with slowness should disable some services... (c:\windows\compmgmt.msc). |

Now for a thought... When you buy Windows XP, you're not really buying it. You're renting it.

Define ?rent?.
When a normal (non-volume/business/corporate) customer purchases a commercial OS product; they are merely buying the rights to use it on a single machine. One doesn?t own the OS itself. This should be familiar to any commercial OS product in the market (including AmigaOS).
Windows Activation regime is just a copy protection measure (not applicable to business/corporate or volume editions). _________________ Amiga 1200 (rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32/RPi CM4/Emu68) Amiga 500 (rev 6A, ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 4B/Emu68) Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB

Actually, the Hand pointer isn't part of the default look. I did that *ages* ago. It was drawn after the mouse pointer of some ancient game (I think it was Ultima III)... |

| I know a lot of hard work has gone into this OS4...and some great work has been done....
However....GUI is a lot more important than some are giving credit for. How important is a good first impression.......?
I gotta refer back to cars.... I love performance ...I want Horsepower and handling ....and someone says i've got the car for you and gives me a rusty piece of crap on the outside....with vinyl interior for those hot summer days....I'd laugh at him. But he then says I could change the body put cool ground effects and take out the interior and make it look like a Corvette....still wouldn't want it.
Most of us tend to look at the technical side and stay focused on that....but if we want more apps...developers etc...we need the majority of the population (non techees) to love the OS for the wrong reason. The GUI.
I Remember what got me my first A1000..it wasn't the garage...or the hardware, but That juggler animation sitting outside the store....Then I realized what I had gotten...and it was amazing. Hyperion is doing a great Job...

| A little late as usual ... but great work guys!
In a way, these screenshots remind me of the familiar AmigaOS 3.1 Workbench which I run on my Amiga 2000HD. Yet at the same time they show many of the enhancements, originally provided by add-on programs that I do not run on my Amiga.
Let me explain ...
My Amiga does not have an accelerator card. Instead, it runs on the original 68000 CPU. So I can only run programs written in pure 68000 code. Anything else will eventually cause a crash.
Thus, I missed out on some of the enhancements most Amiga users take for granted, such as NewIcons, GlowIcons, MagicWB, MagicMenu, Birdie and VisualPrefs.
Now back to the AmigaOS 4.0 GUI screenshots ...
At first I was a little worried. The first screenshots showed windows with a brushed metal background. My wife and son thought these backgrounds were too dark and smudgy looking. I reminded them that we could change the colours and background patterns.
Then, the next set of screenshots came out showing some windows with the plain grey background we are used to. Thanks guys.
Regarding choice of themes, etc. ...
On some threads, people have been clamering for different themes and a more up to date look similar to what is available with the latest verions of Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS or the various GUI's used with Linux and Unix.
We have also seen some very beautiful renderings done by SimoAmi and others.
And, I agree that it would be "nice" to have these choices ... someday.
Meanwhile, we can already change colours, textures, borders, buttons, and background patterns. If we want to, we can even make our borders and buttons into "innies" or "outies".
IMHO that is a pretty good start ...
