| I installed it yesterday, with proper kernel w/altivec support and my A1/G4@933Mhz, and I get
RC5-72: 9879 KKeys/s OGR: 22285 KNodes/s
Quote:
(My P4 - 3,06 GHz does RC72 - 4 million and OGR 11 million BTW) |
Really?! :¬)

Now if it was for something useful, Like Ligandfit (search for cure for cancer) I'd download the client immediately. |
But we don't have Ligandfit, and it is useful to do OGR-P2, not to mention helping to boost the ranking of AmigaOS PPC on the Stats pages, in the meantime.
I encourage you to get the client, and join the effort . Once you get the update, it will FLY with Altivec. It's very fast compared to my PC.
E.g:
RC5-72 on my AMD 1GHz - 3, 800 KKeys/sec RC5-72 on my A1 800MHz - 8, 500 KKeys/sec
OGR-P2 on my AMD 1GHz - 7, 300 KNodes/sec OGR-P2 on my A1 800MHz - 19 ,200 KNodes/sec

| Note that the new kernel only enables the possibility of using Altivec. It's not that everything gets a 3x speed bump automatically. You have to code for it manually and, from personal experience, this is a pain in the *ss. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

| hmmm.... Is this the first "application" that makes G4 A1 more sensible than G3 A1? Perhaps, except that this use is not sensible. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

The previous client to the altivec enabled one was doing approx 14million with the OGR-P2 optimised cores. The initial releases were around 10million iirc, but improved several times since then. |

Great, isn't it?
Comparing different design of CPUs on the MHz (clock) is like comparing top-speed of cars from the horse power. When it comes to CPUs, people seem to think, that a bus would run faster than a sports-car, because the bus has more horse power. PCs are like the bus, an A1 is like a sports-car.

| Would be interesting to see the difference between "normal" core and Altivec-enabled one: anyone could do such comparison tests ?

| Installed and running as we speak. My benchmarks are.
RC5-72: 3,108,717 keys/sec OGR-P2: 14,229,396 nodes/sec
This is on my A1XE G4@800mhz with pre-release (not a beta test version). _________________

| guys, i know atleast one thing..altivec was supposedly only going to speed up Rc-5 and not ogr but we got that too, anyway im sure thomas frienden could post what his 1.4ghz crunches codes at ;-D , im sure it kills all the pc's out there
anyway...SIGN UP TO THE AMIGA TEAM NOW AND MAKE AMIGA FAMOUS AGAIN
cheerios
ps:for you pre release guys use OGR only since rc5 is rather slow imho, atleast if you want to beat the hell out of u know who.. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

Note that MPUs such as Sparc and Alpha based systems also do poorly with RC5 algorithms.
Certain used instructions (e.g. barrel shift, vector rotate) in RC5 package are being emulated/translated by micro-code engine or being done with scalar units (i.e. missing equivalent SIMD instructions**) in X86 MPUs.
