posted by Rogue on 5-Mar-2005 14:20:09 (20468 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 3. March, 2005

Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new AmigaOne firmware update for registered customers of AmigaOS 4.0. New features in this release include

- Improvements in the x86 BIOS emulator
- Reworked IDE/ATA-Code with better support of multiple IDE controllers
- Preliminary support for the Catweasel Mark IV controller by Individual Computers
- Ability to choose graphics card for booting
- Multiple bugs fixed, including a wrong IRQ assignment for AGP graphics cards (Vertical Blanking interrupts should now function correctly)

The update can be downloaded from the file area on Hyperion Entertainment's website.

The archive contains also a new slb_v2. Do we need it?

if none of the things mentioned in the release notes / doc is of no interest well then i would mention that it boots alot faster here than compared to the old uboot...but then again ..might just be my luck

The new uboot tries to set PIO4 for the boot device. It seems it works for you.

I didn't see any mention that the new SLB is required, but it must be because I didn't install it and now my A1 is refusing to boot, claiming it can't find the SLB

For anyone with an a1c with an unsupported by uboot cdrw / cdrom, such as some of slimline drives people have mentioned here, but works fine with a1ide.device then you'll find that you wont be able to boot the cd iso image to flash this new update.
If you have access to a windows pc on the same lan, then download and install solaris winds free tftp server and flash via network.

Using the default windows install path.

Put the floppy updater.image in C:\tftp-root\

in uboot in network boot options set the ip address to the ip address that your a1c usually has on your LAN
set the server ip to the ip address of your windows pc

on the pc run solaris winds tftp server. note xp sp2 may block the server so you may need to disable firewalls to do this.

in uboot type

setenv autostart yes
tftpboot 500000 updater.image

you'll see ##############'s being output as loading of the image progesses over the network then follow the instructions on screen or as give in the pdf file.

Hope this helps

Well, I'm using the old SLB_V2_nolinux but the system still boot's normally, I guess I should put the new SLB_V2 there right ?

I just updated my U-Boot, and both AOS and Linux are booting fine.

Of course, the 8500DV still boots into AOS in 640x480 grayscale (no UBoot display at all), and the Teac CDW-28E slimline is _still_ a cheap piece of junk, but that's okay, 'cause I still have the 7000, and the CD problem isn't U-Boot's fault. And I -still- have the smallest ATX case on the market.

I also had problems with booting the CD (I lack floppy drive) with my HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B (DVD Drive), giving me "bad elf image" and no "slb found" errors, but after messing with different AmigaOS/Linux boot combinations it finally booted, but I don't remember how. Nevermind I also updated my UBoot.

QUESTION:

How can I tell if my firmware is from before or after Feb 2005? My system came pre-installed from the dealer

The enclosed PDF tells how to boot the CD. You probably tried boota instead of diskboot.

Normally, use "version". But only the betatesters had Feb 2005 versions, so you can safely assume yours is older

I've got a customer who has a Sil680. He installed the update alright, but now can't boot off his card. Have the uboot commands changed for this?

Ta ever so...

PS I get the impression my A1c runs slightly faster now.

in some terms... this should have been made clear in the pdf i think.

formerly you had to tell uboot to use the sil controller by setting the env variable "ide" to "sii" (setenv ide sii). this is no longer needed. i deleted this variable now.
instead go to the u-boot menu and select from which ide controller u-boot should boot. you can set it to either the internal via ide or to the external sil ide.

really perfect now!

byebye...

am i correct that the "keyboard-mouse-usb-combos" are not yet supported with this update? at least here my hardware is not identified/used.

also the "auto-usb-keyboard" usage has not made it into this update?

as both is not mentioned in the readme...

byebye...
