Are you running DVPlayer through the shell where it reports number of frames skipped?

DvPlayer MUST BE FASTER! It is born on amiga, Mplayer is portable. Mplayer supports a lot of formats and encrypted DVDs. I donated to afxgroup and also registered Dvpayer, and i think everybody should do the same in our small comunity.
Forceidx is a cool options for a player, but it slow down loading. _________________ ikir

Please post further comments on the "new" version of MPlayer to the thread on the front page. There is a known problem with Xoops (used on this site) where it is not possible to access any pages in "news" threads other than the first and last page. |
I can't say I'd have noticed that, I had no problems reading for example all the pages that are in the DvPlayer news thread. Is this something that has to do with a certain browser, or perhaps a different version of Xoops (aw.net's version is heavily customised after all)? |

it's because people run out of Chipmem (classic) or Video mem (A1) .
i suggest that people just cut down their customization in workbench since they obviously have overdone it and has no mem to read/view. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

i only use 1 browser... IBROWSE . i never use other things and i browse alot here on aw.
long news threads CHEW RTG memory (and aga if youre using classic) but forum threads do not.
i complained alot about the excessive use at this back in the days before i got a 32mb gfx card (or higher).
EDIT: gonna check thoose threads when i have some "boredom" time (as theyre simply too long for now to sit down and read) Last edited by Toaks on 18-Aug-2005 at 02:03 PM.

Understood. It is a -lot- to read. For those of us who can replicate the problem at will: We will continue to try and track this down. Repeating key note:This applies to "news" threads with -more- than 2 pages. The problem refers specifically to pages -between- the first and last pages of a "news" thread only. A three page "news" thread will show this effect on the middle page, page two.

It is possibe: for 2-nd page apeend the following string to the URL of the first page: "&start=20" for 3rd page it'll be "&start=40" and so on

| I have to admit I couldn't be bothered to read those threads very carefully so if this is something that only pops up in very specific circumstances, I can accept there may be some problem. However just now trying to read any "middle" page in a news thread works perfectly fine, this is with a registered IBrowse 2.3. Also works perfectly with Firefox on the linux side, so I don't really see this being a Xoops issue. |

| I have the same problem with IB registered. I have no problem reading a news item IF I'm not logged in. The problem only shows when I'm logged in as a member. I just tried AWebPPC & the same thing happens with that browser. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

Even crazier is when you choose "Newest First" and all the posts get numbered backwards. Crazier still in "threaded view" where all the posts get the "same" number. Ya' gotta love it.
@thread
In my previous post here I have linked directly to the thread with the testing prodedure. If it is not readily understandable, please ask.

In this test, MPlayer takes the CPU usage up to the usual 100% mark while DVPlayer is ugins approx 90%-95%.
I don't think this is importanty since both tests are being done on the same computer but still: A1-XE G4 @ 800Mhz, 512Mb Ram, Radeon 7500, Soundblaster Live.
In these 2 tests you can see I've added no extra commands (The only exception is 'verbose' so that DVPlayer outputs some info. MPlayer plays the video at fill speed, no frame dropping or audio dropping out of sync. DVPlayer does the slow mo sound things mentioned before.

| Nah, the file is direct from a Maxim Magazine issue I got (Footballs greatest ever goals).
It's file size is: 816,392,192 so it'd take a while to put somewhere to download
I'll have it on my hard drive for BB3 if anyone else out there wants to see this happeninig. Me & the MAG crew will be in full force (Hopefully )

Well on my G3 750GX 800MHz the demo version skips on DVD's. Sound though is playing alright. MPlayer on the other hand is nowhere near to playing at full DVD speed. DvPlayer is very near at playing full speed. This tested with Kingpin DVD (a commercial movie without CSS coding).
Also when playing DivX/Xvid DvPlayer is VERY smooth but MPlayer gives a small stutter about every second.
So I'd say DvPlayer is atleast 20-30% faster.
DvPlayer Demo v0.44, first version of avcodec.library with AC3 and latest MPlayer where used to test with.Last edited by Samwel on 19-Aug-2005 at 01:36 AM. Last edited by Samwel on 18-Aug-2005 at 11:33 PM.

MPlayer is too ineffective (slow, unoptimized) to be able to run on a Classic Amiga - 68k or PPC
AMP2, Frogger, and possibly DvPlayer too, contains hand optimized assembler IIRC while MPlayer is constructed to be portable (written in C) and therefore cannot be optimized for one architecture the same way (I think!?). _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.
