Software News   Software News : E-UAE 0.8.28 released
   posted by evilrich on 21-Sep-2005 7:49:10 (10065 reads)
Version 0.8.28 of the portable Amiga emulator has at last been released, at great cost to the sanity of the maintainer.

Binaries are available for AmigaOS (both AmigaOS4 and classic 68k machines) and for the AmigaOS clones MorphOS and AROS as well as a Linux, MacOS X and BeOS.

This version features a tweaked AmigaOS graphics driver which now works properly on AmigaOS4 update #3 and the OS4.0 build offers better performance, an improved SCSI emulation (this lets you access host CD-ROM drives directly), AmigaInput support and at last a useful CD32 emulation (take a look at this screenshot of the CD32 version of SuperFrog running at full-speed on an 800MHz A1-XE - or at least it would have been if I wasn't taking of a screenshot).

Two OS4.0 builds are available - one which uses the native graphics driver and one which uses the SDL library. The former does not yet support E-UAE's Picasso96 emulation, so if you want to emulate an Amiga with a graphics card, use the SDL version for now. Otherwise, the non-SDL version offers better performance (especially for the CD32 emulation).

See http://www.rcdrummond.net/uae/ for more information and for downloads.

Working just brilliant here, but just one question! As i have provided fullscreen
within the SDL-version, how do i make it fit the whole screen, as some part of
the Workbench-screens just don't fit the whole screen..

Any way that i can fix this?

@Toaks

In UAE-config something is written like this:

gfx_fullscreen_amiga=YES
gfx_fullscreen_picasso96=YES

I believe some adjustment to these settings need to be done in order to
make the whole WB3.1 screen to fit the whole screen, right?

Am I the only one who can't get this to work?

I'm using the non-sdl version and all I get is a window flash up on the screen for a split second then a couple of errors:

Quote:

E-UAE 0.8.28
Build date: Sep 20 2005 11:19:07
Found 0 joysticks
Opening cfgfile '.uaerc'...okay.
Option `cpu_speed' requires a numeric argument.
Timebase frequency: 33.333333 MHz
Rexx port "UAE" installed.
Failed to initialize the GUI
No disk in drive 0.
Building CPU table for configuration: 68020/881 prefetch
1866 CPU functions
Building CPU function table, 45954 opcodes (3 1 0).
AppWindow started.
AMIGFX: Unsupported pixel format.
AMIGFX: Failed to init colors.

My .uaerc looks like this:

Quote:

kickstart_rom_file=Games:E-UAE/roms/kick3.1.rom

joyport1=kbd1

cpu_type=68020/68881
cpu_speed=true
cpu_compatible=yes

chipset=aga

chipmem_size=4
fastmem_size=8

sound_output=normal
sound_frequency=42100

gfx_fullscreen_amiga=no

All I want to do is open a windowed display. No fullscreen stuff. I've tried gfx_fullscreen_amiga=false too but it didn't make any difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,
Daniel

nah , thats not where u do that.

USE p96mode in SYS:prefs/ , this is where u create screenmodes and center them etc.

do a search here on aw to see my former walkthroughs.

I also get this error & a Reaper:
Quote:
AMIGFX: Unsupported pixel format.
AMIGFX: Failed to init colors.

Have we done something wrong?

FuZion.

Will take a look at it, but then again SDL is not supposed to be in fullmode

I am pretty much convinced that some of the graphic pointing to fit the
screen correctly, might have been set a bit wrong, cause all my modes in
Picasso96 are centered correctly. Looks like this has to be corrected in
the SDL-version of E-UAE 0.8.28...

@Slash

I might have found it. My Workbench is a 32-Bit thing. When I change to 16-Bit, window mode works ok. Full screen works whether I'm in 32-Bit OR 16-Bit, maybe the new E-UAE only wirks on 16-Bit screens.

I do however still get a Reaper when I quit E-UAE. It doesn't cause a problem, I can just 'Kill' it & run E-UAE again without probs.

Does this happen to anyone else?

FuZion.

@FuZion

I don't get a Reaper, but then I'm running a fully up to date beta version of the OS so maybe that has been fixed since PR-3.

Guess I'll just have to use fullscreen until Richard provides a fix, and/or confirms this is a problem.

Cheers,
Daniel

@FuZion

I get a Reaper when I quit the new E-UAE (non-SDL), too.

I've only got the Grim if I haven't loaded an ADF (i.e. quit from the "insert disk" screen).

helgis:just read what i wrote and do it.

SDL Is meant for fullscreen as much as its meant for window mode.

to set the screenmodes use p96mode , if you need help to figure it out (yes its an ackward program) then do a search here on aw as i wrote a full walkthrough for p96mode in a thread here.

cheers and good luck

Can you elaborate a bit about the E-UAE AmigaInput joystick support? Does that include old Amiga digital sticks?

If you had some kind of adapter which supported old-style digital joysticks and there was an AmigaInput driver for it - then, yes.

The Catweasel would fit the bill, but AFAIK there are no AmigaInput drivers for it yet.

It shouldn't. This starts the built-in debugger/monitor in the console that the log output is going to.
