Software News   Software News : New OS4 AHI version on the AHI homepage
   posted by DaveAE on 27-Sep-2005 16:54:46 (8435 reads)
Martin Blom (author of AHI) has set up a cross-compiler for OS4 and has built a new version of the AHI user and developer archives for OS4. They can be downloaded from http://www.lysator.liu.se/~lcs/files/ahi/beta/. Please look for the ppc-amigaos archives over there.
This version includes native versions of ahi.device 6.5, emu10kx.audio 6.4, device.audio 6.1, filesave.audio 6.2 and even native AHI prefs!

Although the functional changes are minimal, you are invited to update to these versions. The device.audio might help in running multiple programs using AHI simultaneously. In order to use it, go to the Music Unit in AHI prefs and select a 'Unit 0' mode. This will route the audio to 'Unit 0'.

@DaveAE

Sorry for being off-topic, but the subject was raised here.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I am still going over some 68k diagnostic/utility helpful apps to make sure
they perform well on OS4. When I am done (if ever), maybe we could start a
thread on diagnostic programs and similar to help people.

Most folks know about Memtester and SnoopDos, but there is SO much more.

BTW-Much like the program "list68k", "ReportTool", which is also on OS4depot
even breaks the file report down to "ELF", "68K", and "BIN". This program also
makes a good "button" in a disk utility program.

Best Wishes,
#6

LineIn and CDPlayer do not function with the new AHI. As also with all other versions. Except Emu10k.audio 5.16.

If CDPlayer pretends to be playing but nothing is heard, it might be that you have to run mixer to turn up the volume. If this is the case, by running AHI Pref once, volume will be correct. Then you should hear CDPlayer playing.

Works fine here with Audigy2.

I'm not sure what that device.audio is for though. I couldn't find any reference to it in the documentation and the release notes only say that people wanted it, not what it does.

Line In always worked for me and it still does with this one.
CD never worked here and still doesn't.

Dave tried to make the Audigy2 CD/Aux header ports work, to no avail. It's just a poorly documented card. My next one will be the Juli@ anyway.

@BlackNinja

You know they don't work and you know why. Stop complaining. If you can do better, the sources are publicly available. And if you really need to complain, complain at Creative please.

Isn't it an audio.device replacement to make old programs not aware of AHI and using the system audio.device still run by redirecting all to AHI ?

Which Soundcard is supported at all under Aos4.0 100%? Unfortunate that the Soundblaster Audigy z2 not fully supported. However at least the LineIn and CDPLAY with Emu10k.audio 5.16 functioned.

@DaveAE:

I'll be brief:

pros:
device.audio is great! It is definitely a must.

cons:
Audio playback and high speed transfer crashed (it is SBLive! again).
Does this EMU10K driver contain the lower frequency inteerupt timer as in latest os4 release?

TIA,
Jack

It is possible that it is using the 1000 Hz, because of a missing #define . I'll ask Martin, thanks.

We checked, it's at 80 Hz. Well, it doesn't fix it then.

I don't use the driver, but what about the memory alignment you talked about?
Is that in there too?

- Edit -

AHI all working here - Love the redirecting of the music unit - get stuff!
(Now all of you can redirect TuneNet to this device in order to mix the sound
with other apps without waiting for me to support the Units 0 - 3! )

Cheers,
Bean.

@ AmigAlex

Just keep in mind. The Juli dont have any output for headphones.
It doesnt have any CD in.

You can choose between unbalance or balanced connection. Not both.
It has:
Analog inputs and analog outputs
breakout cable connection (midi in/out, coaxial SPDIF IN/OUT)
S/PDIF Optical output

Thats all. So if your into music making its ok. If you want to
have alot of connections for cd,aux etc better buy some multimedia
card. Almost forgot, the analog monitoring isnt working as said
in the readme but in future could be redirected.

@ Helgis

When I saw this news, I thought, 'Helgis will reply soon, probably in the first five, but likely not first', and I was right. You still need to work some on that fanatacism...almost there, still just a little too much personal life getting in the way. Maybe someone could send you an arexx script to play a "boing'" sound effect, when news is posted. You know your mom was wrong, when she said "slow down, and chew that pizza'. Just think of how many topics you failed to reply first to, only because superstitions were ingrained in your mind, from an early age! Now go crank up your favorite tunes, and punish those surly subwoofers! Maybe even track a new one, to celebrate these great native drivers...

@DaveAE

Just spent some time testing this new AHI install & it works fine on my system. I tested everything I could think of, CD-in, AmiNetRadio, line-in & recording, SongPlayer with ISO downloading in the background, mplayer, no problems. No way to check digital audio at this time.

@DaveAE

Hmm, the first 80Hz version of the driver didn't crash. Now doing small stress-test (downloading the same 1/4G file to ram: with streaming radio).
Done it two times in row with the EMU10K 6.2, took 1 minute, 4Mb/s, no crashes...
It is the same file that hung the A1 yesterday.
I'll do the same stress test with 6.4 driver later (maybe today, if not -- then only on Sunday).
(Edit was: 6.4 instead of 6.5)

Jack

Strictly, I never talked about memory alignment. But you probably mean the bug fix for the CMI driver, which is not related to the emu10kx, because the emu10kx works totally different.
