I'm really looking forward to seeing it in action (with respect to other PowerPC systems), but I am a little concerned about a "beta test" being used to finance a production run. It doesn't bode well for the commercial viability of the project. :-/ _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603

| My gosh, think of the COLLECTOR VALUE!!!!!!
Too bad my pockets are so shallow worms can't drown, else I might just try for beta status.Although most males really want to be alpha. Are there any alpha testers needed? |

Where do they say that? Where does is it said it is a pre-pay scheme? I would agree with your assumption, if your first statement was correct, which it isn't. Don't post FUD, please stick to the facts you know. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

It doesn't say. I was merely speculating. If you know something I don't, then please, enlighten me.
My first statement was, "I'm really looking forward to seeing it in action...." Are you certain that statement is incorrect? If not, keep the FUD to yourself. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603

If you are genuinely interested then email the address given by Sundown. This will give you the basic information you need and how the beta program is going to work. I personally think the terms are more than fair and hope that I get picked for the beta program.

If you want more information about how the beta program works then you should email contact@a-eon.com. If you are not interested in being in the beta program why would it bother you if beta testers have to pay a non-returnable $1 million deposit and sacrifice their first born (which they don't btw)? But making up stuff about how it will work when that information is freely available to anyone that asks is unhelpful.

Now I will have to evaluate if it will be worthwhile for me to participate. Something to think about over the weekend, I guess. |

| As far as I know, this is not a h/w test program, but an os4 port beta test program. You apply, if you get picked, you can back out or sign a NDA & pay a deposit. If you pay the deposit, you can still back out & get your money back before the board is sent.
As a beta tester, you'll have access to the latest os files, no waiting for updates. If you find a bug, you get to report it yourself & test any fixes.
A discounted high end system, daily updates, & bug reporting ability, what more could you ask for? Some assembly required... Last edited by sundown on 29-May-2010 at 04:12 AM.

| Personally, I would love to play a part and help in this adventure (regardless of how poor it will make me afterwards).
I would rather die having used an AmigaOne X1000 than with the money I could have spent to buy one

| Hmm...due to the fact that my OS4.1 machine is not reachable at the moment and I only have my trusty OS3.9 machines to play with ... it would be a nice idea to have something OS4.x related to tinker with - especially this one ...
Problem is, I might have the money but I don't have the time - beta testing is (at least for me) to "serious" to play only once a week a few hours with it ... *sigh* _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000

| @Trev I know you are an inquiring mind but this time you're embedding an accusation there (yes its your speculation, but "also" an accusation).
I believe just the opposite, they want a fully working product from day one, they are doing things professionally so that when they send review samples to ArsTechnica or OSNews (and the likes) they won't experience weird behaviors.
A nice move IMHO _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32

| @all Rather than post speculation & FUD, I decided to actually email A-Eon with my questions & concerns. But I really hope they publically post more info, because they don't give enough IMHO. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black.
