Software News   Software News : UFO - Alien Invasion for AmigaOS4
posted by afxgroup on 23-Nov-2010 14:26:07 (15260 reads)
UFO - Alien Invasion has been released and can be downloaded from Amigasoft.net web site.

---------------------------------------------------------

General

It is the year 2084. You control a secret organisation charged with defending Earth from a brutal alien enemy. Build up your bases, prepare your team, and dive head-first into the fast and flowing turn-based combat.

UFO: Alien Invasion is a squad-based tactical strategy game in the tradition of the old X-COM PC games, but with a twist. Our game combines military realism with hard science-fiction and the weirdness of an alien invasion. The carefully constructed turn-based system gives you pin-point control of your squad while maintaining a sense of pace and danger.

Over the long term you will need to conduct research into the alien threat to figure out their mysterious goals and use their powerful weapons for your own ends. You will produce unique items and use them in combat against your enemies. If you like, you can even use them against your friends with our multiplayer functionality.

UFO: Alien Invasion. Endless hours of gameplay — absolutely free.

The game takes a lot of inspiration from the X-COM series by Mythos and Microprose. However, it's neither a sequel nor a remake of any X-COM or other commercial title. What we as a team wanted to make is a brand new experience that tries to surpass the quality of games from 1992, rather than simply recreate them with flashier graphics.

We also believe that open-source projects don't need to be disorganised or badly-managed. We work together in a friendly and professional way, with a clear vision for a game that we know is worth playing.
---------------------------------------------------------

Warning.

* On systems with 64MB video card you could have the usual texture problem. You have to wait the new w3d drivers that will resolve this problem.
* If you have problems during launch of the game and your partition is using an SFS file system please try to test in on a JXFS or FFS partition

My SamFlex has 1GB of RAM and a Radeon 9250 128MB together a SB Live! 5.1 sound card.

It's not so slow (on windows is faster) but when I switch to fullscreen, there are a lot of popups, it's just unplayable.

About UFO game. Installed, worked, but the second time it asked for an assign to Cygnix: ?????, WTF?

Also, after a while of playing the game, it starts to crawl and all graphics goes in really mess.

Restarting the game again from the beginning, all the graphics are in real mess. Can't see a thing.

You have to reboot the Amiga and run the game again to see, but again after a while everything get messed up.

The strange thing is that if this game runs normally under AmigaOne with 128MB of gfx card, then under Sam440ep system something is wrong, or something isn't updated yet.

When you get graphics corruption, jump to workbench screen and see the video memory available.. it will be near zero.. doesn't matter if you have 64 or 128MB of video mem. Sooner or later you will get gfx corruption. With the update 23d drivers this has been totally fixed plus some other fix but i don't know when it will be released. maybe with the release of 4.1 for classic

Will run the game on my Sam with 533Mhz?

I think you would have to upgrade the GFX card. I tried it on my 533mhz sam and it loaded and seemed fine for a short moment before it slowed down to a crawl and had texture problems everywhere.

@afxgroup
Do you think the new drivers wil fix texture problems with other games that currently have texture problems on my sam 533mhz?

Speed is quite acceptable, but it's unplayable with all that corruptions, do you know any ETA about this new Warp3D release ?

I don't want any specific data, only an estimation
