There may be other problems (such kernel may contain code from former developers, not useable without license etc.), so we don´t know for sure.
|
I think that the only problem is related to licenses. However OS4 is still developed, kernel too, and Hyperion should have some license to use the code owned by other people.
Maybe some OS4 customers should ask a clarification regarding this patch. We have Hyperion's representative too... |

I think Cloanto is strongly pushing for some solution on memory front. After all, needed change kernel is trivial. |

I have probably more powerful hardware, but never had such problems. Did you try PCI sound card emulation? Should demand less CPU speed than Paula emulation+AHI. |
I am running WinUAE version 3.2 and can't appear to find the option for PCI sound card emulation..... I have options for Paula AHI or CD under the host sound tabs
And yes running it on a laptop/tablet/netbook is the only portable solution at present but I think it may struggle along with Amiga OS3.9 emulation I might add if attempted on a basic spec netbook/tablet. _________________ Amigaone X5000/20 4GB Radeon RX 550 Polaris 12 AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 1 Amiga 1200 Workbench 3.1.4 Amiga CD32

I mean PCI settings in WinUAE/Expansion
I have: Expansion Board Settings: PCI Bridgeboards Mediator (Elbox) Enabled 4000MK2 Full PCI DMA
Miscellaneous Expansions: ES1370 PCI sound card (note: driver is on OS4 depot) |

| Really cant understand why only for classic we have digital download...the only reason I can imagine was because they want to grant some income to os4 dealers... However I REALLY hope that Cloanto will really solve the memory limit and possibly also gfx limit :) Cloanto's guys was realli nice guys! _________________ Simone"Tuxedo"Monsignori, Perugia, ITALY.

So If I understand well you are suggesting there is kernel that fixed the memory problem for quite some time already but there may be copyright problem similar to JXFS for example? |

Yes, that is what I had in mind. We know Hyperion tested Z3 as RAM (as told by DarrenHD), so there was some kernel version with better Z3 support. Assuming WinUAE is good source of income for Hyperion and more RAM would present OS4 in much better light than now, I don´t see other reason than some copyright issue. However, without clarification from Hyperion, this is only pure speculation. |

You were faster than my "speculative reply". So no copyright issue, nice!
Wasn´t Classic best selling version of OS4.1FE? Shouldn´t then support for Z3 RAM have ultimate priority? Last edited by pavlor on 19-Dec-2015 at 09:33 PM.

Have you made an agreement with Cloanto and released OS4 FE only for "classic" to just sell a bunch of copies to the amigans which own a CyberstormPPC or a BlizzardPPC? It's really hard to believe it.
As well, it's hard to believe that "classics" customers are receiving so much attention, when all PowerPC owners are asking from years to get OS4 using digital download.
It's obvious that WinUAE users are driving the sells of OS4, because it allows anyone to use the o.s. with their PCs, without spending a single penny. They don't need a physical support, because they use an ISO for this. That's why you're releasing your o.s. for digital download, using Cloanto as a partner, which operates from decades on the... Amiga emulation market.
And it's even harder thinking that you're so busy that you don't find a few minutes to enable (merge) the patch, and build a new kernel which removes the artificial limits caused by a couple of code lines. And no: you don't need to wait there, in front of the computer, waiting for build to complete...
If you don't want to test it because you have "higher priorities" (than selling immediately many other copies), well, I'm pretty sure that Cloanto's Michele Battilana will be more than happy to get your new binaries, test it, release the new ISO for digital download, make a public announcement, and... take a look at the counters of the sold copies.
IMO the only reason which you're still refusing to do a trivial thing like this, is because you have agreements with your hardware partners, and don't want to hurt the sells of their machines, including future ones.
So, you prefer to cripple the experience of your customers (because OS4 "classic" users are... paying for YOUR product) instead of spending a microscopic time crumb of some collaborator to realize what is obvious to do from very long time. |

| @pavlor: X5000 is late, Tabor even more, and they are both overpriced & expensive machines (for what you get).
An emulation platform can be a real threat, especially for the latter. |

I don´t think so, there are other (much harder to overcome) limitations than RAM (GFX, NET, HDD speed, USB etc.). For me, emulation was incentive to start looking for real hardware and I´m sure this applies also for others. |

How is the Emulated AmigaOS 4 experience compared to NG Amiga Hardware? Performance, Window redrawing speed etc. |
Quite poor and limited. Not really suitable for serious usage.
But for once in an OS4 context, the entry cost is low for end-users and the availability is high, so they will probably make some bucks on it (in combination with Amiga Forever sales from the same shop). In fact, they will probably be making a lot more on this alone than all the accumulated "AmigaOne" sales from all times, despite the much lower price. |

So you finaly support OS4.1 on WinUAE ? |
No they don't, at least not to a current public knowledge. There has been no statement of official Hyperion support for OS4.1 on WinUAE. You should consider it unsupported and place your expectations about the usage/future development of the product in a WinUAE context accordingly.

Why making digital download available would have anything to do to officially support something ? |
Exactly. Official support means responsibility and a lot of potential work/cost. Way better to simply insinuate and make it look like it is something supported, for example by using Cloanto (the UAE master) as the distribution channel and to sell it from the same ordering page as AmigaForever, and sit back and collect the money. A bit like they do with the OS4 "Franken-MUI"; they use the official OS update system to push out "MUI 4" updates, they write about it in official blogs etc. But strictly speaking it's an unsupported third party contribution, which of course is comfortable to point out in times of allegations about Copyright infringements and stuff like that.
Speaking of that, I wonder how the alleged Copyright infringement in Amiga Forever will play out, where Cloanto allegedly bundled pirated PowerUP ROM's in their product?

Indeed, and not the first time this issue has come up:

Never going to happen.
I have OS4.1.6 for Pegasos 2 and I see no reason whatsoever to pay extra money for 4.1.8, especially not for a cripled PowerUP platform running on unsupported emulation solution. Not a lot of money, agreed, but still a complete waste. IMHO of course...
