Twenty years ago terror stalked the skies whilst below, humanity cowered in fear. No, we are not talking about 'pouffy' hairstyles, shoulder pads and men wearing mascara. We are talking about Space Invaders.
We thought we had won. We thought they were beaten. Guess what? We were wrong.
In 2004, scientists detected new and strange signals coming from behind the moon. Some laughed, some cried, most ignored ... until it started.
Introducing the must have game for Pocket PC PDA and Windows PC owners from Zeoneo. Featuring:
* Multiple alien craft types, each with their own particular weapons, moves and intelligent behaviour. * Super weapons, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. * Beautifully rendered locations. * Unlimited levels. * The mother of all motherships * Explosion, smoke, particle special effects and much more. * Rankings both by score and progress. * Versions for PocketPC PDAs and Windows personal computers.
These aren't your parent's invaders though. Blocky pixels, the 'march of death' and stupid 'Mep Maw' noises are out of the window. These guys have smartened up. More attack patterns than a Kung Fu master, better looking than a bus full of supermodels and with more tricks up their sleeves than a Vegas magic show, these guys are back and they intend to do the business - in style.

| Well MikeB, the "Amiga" name may well have been responsible for giving AMiga Inc. the kicksart it needed back in 1999, but 4 more years have passed since then and I am reasonabley convinced it closes as many doors as it opens nowday. Furthermore, I believe that distancing ourselves from a company that has treated its customers, and its community so shabbily would not be a bad thing. Also, do not forget that Eyetech own the trademark "AmigaOne" not Amiga Inc. so they are free to use it whilst also having the nostalgic link the the past machines that were at least respected by so many. All Hyperion needs do is drop the "amiga" from the name and simply call it OS 4.
I would hardly call Amiga DE revolutionary, intent that is the foundation for DE is another matter, however even that is a bit iffy because of the prevalence of java, no matter wht the advantages or disadvantages of intent are.It is very similar in alot of respects.Sure they did not have the resources, but niether did they top guys need to pay themselves as much as they did which consumed quite alot of those limited resources.Even still, the comunity ponied up and bought into the coupon deal and it looks like they are going to be repayed by being shafted by Amiga Inc, who it seems is going to let KMOS pick up the tab on that particular score.Very shabby indeed.

However IMO we should never forget that AmigaOS4 development would probably never have gotten to this point (or even started) if the Amiga brand and assets wouldn't have been bought from Gateway by Animo and they wouldn't have made deals with 3rd parties for its development |
We must also remember, that Amino had no intention of furthering development of the OS or hardware when they did this, it was the community that was responsible for convincing them to do something about it, and even then they simply shelled it out to third parties so in balance they did very little in comparison.

Also most companies including Amiga Inc have investors they simply can't neglect and thus occuring events are often not as simple as some people (often competitors) want you to believe. Although there are many things to be unhappy about with regard to the past (with regard to most Amiga companies and competitors) I don't think the community should drown itself for this. The fact that we have gotten to this point already is quite amazing considering the well established monopolies and limited available resources! Against all odds things are shaping up pretty well for the Amiga community! |
Here we can agree. There is alot of things even in recent history to be unhappy about, I just hope KMOS can start talking and give us a clue to where the platform is going very soon. Funny thing is, if Amino had not come along at all, we would likely all be on the pegasos, and probably be quite happy about it.Then again, it is difficult to see if that would really have been a good thing or a bad thing considering who is at the helm of genesi.
In anycase, we digress somewhat, we should go back to giving kudos to Zeoneo rather than discussing such unpleasantness. Zeoneo! _________________

I don't think so, I believe most potential users/developers are still unaware of the AmigaOS4 project. Just a few weeks ago I spoke with a programmer at a friend's house and he was amazed to hear that there would soon be a new version of AmigaOS. He had very fond memories of his A1200 and said he would love to buy something like a MicroA1 when AmigaOS4 development has been completed. He is totally unaware of what has happened over the years and I believe that this counts for the vast majority.

That's up to KMOS to decide.

My point was that without them it would not have been possible to begin with, of course it would have saved Hyperion and other partners alot of trouble if Amiga Inc simply said "No!".
From a business point of view it made IMO perfectly sense at the time to concentrate on something like AmigaDE/intent instead of (very) obsolete AmigaOS3.x technology. I am not saying I would have made the same choices, but I think the choice is defendable. Kudos to the AmigaOS4 team for their devotion and enthusiasm. |

Your right. In the beginning when they took over from Gateway the only thing that was in the works was AmigaDE. Nothing related to the classic stuff. Software only and it was AmigaDE to be.
@MikeB
I agree that they did help jumpstart the A1 and OS4. But at one point somebody can have helped it all start but become also the reason to make it all come down.

Maybe they didn't want Amiga to ressurect. |
You can freely remove the first word of the sentence. Collas had undeniable charisma and some clever ideas but he worked for the wrong company. Gateway was, is and will be a lame wintel company. |
