Relatively speaking, Articia S northbridge was cheaper than Marvell Discovery II, yet products based on latter were cheaper and users didnt have to hunt for rare and expensive SDRAM. How much you save in the end? _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook

MAI may have given a discount to get their market started because they were new and unknown (Even the Freescale people I talked to at FTF a year ago didn't know who MAI was or what Articia was, and they created reference design boards for Marvell and Tundra northbridges). Maybe they discounted because of the bugs. Maybe no one was interested at their original price goal and they were forced to reduce it to get even only Eyetech/Genesi to buy. Who knows.
I had no idea they were cheaper, and I'm a bit suprised by that. I'll do a Helgis - I reject your reality and substitute my own. *
At the time I bought mine, SDRAM wasn't rare, and was less expensive than DDR. SDRAM was on its way out, for sure, but had not yet reached the status of being eccentric and thus more expensive than its successors, as it is today.

How about if I come for a visit to Hungary? Can I geta free beer? What ones would you recomend?
I'm not too worried about the current specs for the Amy'05. It looks great! I plan on putting my BBS on my new Amiga. Then I will gladly get another one for my day to day stuff and keep the Linux/Windows box around for other things, such as...well.... um...... Lemme get back to you on that. _________________ Follow the Amiga Roundtable Podcast on Twitter! http://twitter.com/amized AmiZed Studios Website - Amiga Roundtable * Carrier Whistle * NewsTek

How about they just give us a PCI-Express slot and let each of us decide if we want to spend US$250 on that thing to plug into it? Neat idea, too bad it sounds like a Mac product (No Windows/Linux drivers mentioned). Might we even be able to get drivers ported? _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad!

Not only that, you'll get USB2.0, Sil680 and maybe even Gbit ethernet. Too bad that they didn't convert the 66MHz to a AGP slot though. Would have been the perfect desktop beginners board then.
@Itix
Tundra 107 doesn't support DDR so there's nothing they can do about that. Btw SDRAM is not hard to get. Every computer internet shop I searched in had those. Granted they're more expensive.
@Troika
Hope to see PATA+SATA, G4, DDR2, PCIe on your next board? _________________ /Harry

What about 2D support for this Forefront? 3D Hyperion? Last edited by Samwel on 12-Sep-2006 at 03:53 PM.

| I wouldn't say its too expensive. A quick look on ebay shows 512MB PC133, buy it now, from about £25, that a 1/4 of what i paid to eyetech for the RAM I have in my XE. Second user ram is going for about £15-£20 for 512MB

Yes but you pop up in every thread attacking OS4 and potential new hardware, promoting Peg and MOS. You can do this, but it is getting boring.... months after months....
You're referring to other highend Troika project not to Amy05. Last edited by ikir on 12-Sep-2006 at 04:28 PM.

| @all Am I the only one who wishes that Troika would STOP improving their mobo, and just release the damn thing? Does no-one remember Mick Tinker & the Boxer?
And IMHO, who-ever releases a board first, even if it is lower spec, is going to get the majority of the sales (assuming they can meet demand). People are fed-up of waiting. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...

A word of warning. Way back when I was testing RAM sticks on my A1XE running the very first beta versions of OS4 I discovered some RAM manufacturers used false SPD specs to work around PC memory controller bugs. I don't know if this practice is still common but consumers should not be surprised to find some memory sticks just won't work or don't work as specified. Buyer beware.
@Troika Great work on the Amy guys. Now please ignore any and all requests for changes to the design and ship it. I keep having this nightmare where a beta Amy board attacks me but every night it is a different revision. I had the same nightmares when the BoXeR project was going on.
We'll have to see how much crunching power Amy has in terms of compiling large C++ projects. I look forward to setting up the experiment and comparing between the A1XE and MicroA1-C models. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead
