Are you crazy. If this system releases and os4 runs on it its not too expensive for me :) If its running windows/os5/linux or something its too expensive for me :)

A lack of PCI slots doesn't matter much, sound, TV and Wifi can all be done with with USB.

Spec looks pretty much as expected, but one PCI slot on a system without built-in audio? Ouch.

The intention behind the lack of built-in audio was to allow flexibility with the sound capabilities for true audio enthusiasts. For all intents and purposes, the PCI slot is pretty much there for a very inexpensive sound card. All other cards are moving towards PCI Express and with the inexpensive PLX8111, it allows use of PCI based chips on modern hardware anyways. It's a non-issue as PCI Express cards become the de-facto standard.

Even better! 6 USB, SATA2 and all PCI-E slots, and the one for graphic board! My, we are talking serious powers here!

MUM, book me a ticket to planet Mars! I'm taking a speed-trip in lightspeed!

As expected and looks good so far, for some specs.

However, this specs are again for a full system and again fail to mention
anything about memory, HD and gfx-card.

Annother paper-launch while there still were not even
any pictures of prototype Vixxen-boards shown.

Just prove me wrong, for now I remain sceptic.

It's always nice with official information from Amiga Inc!
Much better than rumours. But this time they are under plenty of preassure to deliver what they just have announced. An estimated delivery date and a demo of the products at a show is needed !!!

Nobody will take this announcement serious if they don't do this or start selling the product really soon.

/Xter... I hope it's true and I hope it's for OS4!

Nice but too expensive for our market, it's definitely not for the Amiga user.

I remember paying just over US$3000 for my Escom/Quikpak A4000T system. I even asked for no hard drive to save money, and this was a stock box with no Zorro cards included, I was taking any interesting stuff from my 2000 to put in it. This thing sounds to be half the price of my barebones A4000T. I later paid $720 + shipping for a CSPPC card to put in it. The other stuff I already had for my 2000: $500 for PicassoIV, $300 for DelfinaPlus, $150 for DKB Rapidfire (better than built-in 4091 for removable media such as ZIP drives), $150 for GVP serial/parallel card, as well as whatever for CDROM, hard drive, etc. I'm not complaining about this thing.

It may be expensive to some, yes. I don't see which graphics, sound, main memory capacity, etc. which I'm suprised at considering ACK said they'd only sell complete systems. For the moment I assume I'll have to consider such items in addition to the $1498 listed. I guess you can spend $500 or more on a graphics card, but for OS4 I'm not sure that makes sense. I've already got a spare Soundblaster that should work in the PCI slot. I'll have to buy a hard drive and CDROM as I don't have any SATA stuff at all, not even in a current machine. Not sure what RAM I might have to add so hard to guess price. If this isn't a complete, add nothing but a monitor and go system, I might get up around $1800 to $2000. But considering what went into what is now my A4000T, this is still significantly cheaper.

Come on then, lets see a release date.

Specs are awesome but we need some substance, and that starts with a release date.

One point though. Only ONE PCI slot?? is there going to be a riser card available? One is not enough if there is no on board Sound!

Heck, I felt one PCI slot was one too many!

The only people who need to believe this exists or will exist are the lawyers.

I think the odds are you are right, sadly. If true how cruel it will be viewed in the future, look at the happiness people are feeling at finally thinking a new machine will be made available.

I hope you are wrong though and that the smaller odds play out and we get a working Amiga machine, anything at this point for OS 4.

So while I'm hopeful it works out I'm reserved as I don't think rationally that its likely to.

@asymetrix

50000 units??? i'm not sure what you're on but maybe i'd like to have some of that too.
you'll be lucky if you get 5000 units. Prediction: 1000 this year at most.
Thats a lot of money to spend, if all its going to run is OS4. (Linux/MOL/MAC support needed). OS4 has no software. Be realistic people.
Not to mention that with speeds like that, can you get good 68K emulation?
Why not build Video Slot for Video toaster 4000, and Zorro 3 slot for Toaster Flyer, and build the toaster support, at least then maybe it will be a high end video editing machine?
or forget all that, just talk to Newtek and convince them to port their new toaster hardware to this motherboard...

I wouldn't worry too much in the first place. I'm sure it must be AmigaOS5, or at least it was talk about SMP for AmigaOS4, but i guess it could be AmigaOS5...

I think i can image the result of the trial. It could very well be that the end of the trial will turn out to be the best for all parts, and that it will mean that AmigaOS5 will be ready and the base of AmigaOS4 would already have formed AmigaOS5. The future is now, and perhaps Amiga Inc finally has realized that we need to catch up with the entire world, and it has to happen as soon as possible, so yes..this is the way to go...

Yes, by the way. I said we shouldn't worry to much. The alternative OS is still Linux

@Ack

I guess it's too late, but why didn't you drop all the PCI slots from the low end system and go for a tiny board like Efika. You could fit it in a much smaller, more stylish and more living room friendly case. Something like the Mac tissue box but nicer. Almost everything is available as USB.

Have you succeded to get OS4 or parts of it running on any of the new HW?
When will we at least know the releasedate?

Best of luck to you!
